NCM’s Mini Corvette Challenge

Twenty-three teams will participate in the 16th annual Junior Achievement Mini Corvette Challenge this year. Each team is paired up with a local school, encouraging students to come cheer on their school’s vehicle.

“The kids get super excited,” said Laura Goodman, program manager for Junior Achievement.

This race marks the single largest fundraising event for the Junior Achievement organization – collecting more than $400,000 in 15 years! This year, there are twenty-one sponsors for the each car in the race (Dollar General and U.S. Bank each sponsoring two cars).

The race will take place:

Date: Saturday, May 8

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Location: National Corvette Museum’s west parking lot

Though U.S. Bank has been a defending champion for quite some time. Will they win again this year?  You’ll just have to wait to find out!

Episode 3 of 12: Corvette Racing Series

This year marks Corvette Racing’s 50th year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In celebration of this milestone, a special edition Corvette has been created – the Z06 Carbon.

“We want it [Carbon Z06] to show how we can use racing technology on the streets,” says Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager.

The creation of this ‘Vette is really a culmination of the continuous improvements that Corvette has made both within their racing program and on the everyday street-car production.

From carbon fiber exterior panels to suede/leather interior to carbon ceramic brakes, check out all the bells and whistles that this vehicle has to offer. In fact, later this summer, 500 of the 2011 Z06 Carbons will be available for purchase. Interested?

GeigerCars Grand Sport

GeigerCars, a German vehicle modifying company, recently released one of their extreme upgrade projects – the Corvette Grand Sport.

With a six-speed transmission (5th and 6th gears modified), this vehicle just purrs.

A 2.3 liter supercharge has been added to the vehicle’s already fast LS3 6.2 liter V8 engine, allowing the vehicle to produce up to 596-horsepower and 544-lb-ft of torque.

Give this car 4 seconds and it can reach speeds of 62 mph, then later hit a top speed of 209 mph!

Wider front and rear fenders give this vehicle additional vents so the larger brakes (355 mm, six-cylinder discs at the front axle and 340 mm, four-cylinder discs at the rear) may cool more efficiently. The light alloy 18- and 19-inch wheels are wrapped in 275/35 (front) & 325/30 (rear) tires.

Even the vehicle’s unique graphics play a role in this sophisticated hot ride. Ohh la la!

What do you think of this baby’s upgrade?
