The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began an investigation on May 12, 2010 regarding the status of 33,000 2004 Corvettes. The complaint: leaky fuel tanks.

 

With 30 consumers “alleging either liquid fuel or fuel vapor leaking from a fuel tank,” the Corvettes’ two fuel tanks have been examined. Only 12 reports surfaced in identifying the source of the leak and/or needing to replace the tank. The status of the other 18 vehicles is unknown.

"We are aware of the NHTSA investigation into the 2004 Corvette and are cooperating with the agency," said GM spokesman Alan Adler.
