Chevrolet century

ST. GEORGE – One hundred years ago today, the founders of Chevrolet formed a company that would become a competitor against Ford and, later, Plymouth for the pocketbooks of everyday Americans seeking affordable cars.

Carrera has been around since 1963 when they produced their first 1:32 scale racetrack.

SEMA 2011: 1959 Corvette ZR59 Concept

SEMA 2011: 1959 Corvette ZR59

There are some nice custom show cars at the SEMA automotive convention in Las Vegas and then there is the 1959 Corvette ZR59 on display at the Wilwood Disc Brakes booth. Starting as a humble 1959 Corvette, the ZR59 now boasts modern supercar performance without losing the original distinctive look of a C1 roadster.

The Corvette ZR59 is a one-of-a-kind vision that started out as a design on paper. From the choice of the modern LS9 crate engine to hand built bumpers and the custom racing-inspired interior, you can see the highest level of custom workmanship that went into this creation.

The Corvette was built by Palmer’s Custom’s & Cal West Customs. Riding on an Art Morrison chassis, the Corvette’s boasts a C6 front suspension and Air Ride “Shockwaves” with auto leveling technology. The beefed up 750 hp LS9 engine is mated to a TREMEC T-56 6-Speed and the ZR59 rides on Nutek’s 3-piece forged aluminum wheels fitted with Hankook 245/35/19s in the front and 305/25/20s in the Rear.

Palmer’s Customs handcrafted all the custom body modifications including the bumpers, front end grill and trim, air diffuser, exhaust, tonneau cover, rear wheel tubs, windshield and cockpit trim, dash and gauge clusters, center console and the engine cover.

This is one of the best custom Corvettes we’ve ever had chance to shoot and the only thing lacking was the inability to actually see and hear it run. We’ll be dreaming of this custom roadster for some time to come.

on Craigslist: 1999 Callaway C12

The title on the Dallas Craigslist ad simply reads “1999 Chevrolet Corvette Yellow 8 Cylinder Automatic Coupe – $104,900”. Savvy internet searchers will immediately notice the $105k price tag and wonder what kind of C5 can merit such a lofty sum.

What New Equipment Do You Want to See on the C7 Corvette?

Vette Magazine yesterday published a somewhat whimsical list of features they would like to see on the 2014 Corvette.  With something like just 21 months to go until the C7 hits the road, we the prospective C7 buyers are running out of time to express our requests to Chevy.

The magazine lists the following items as desirable:

Built-in in-line dynomometer for on-the-fly horsepower readings.

Parental control locks that electronically set a speed governor before you loan your Corvette to your teenagers.  🙂

Vehicle-to-vehicle handshakes that allow you to publish your Corvette‘s profile to an on-board transmitter, and receive published profiles from other Corvettes within wireless range, when driving, or at car shows, events, races, etc.

On-board WIFI Internet hotspot (password protected).  It’s a shock that this isn’t already an option.

Road course lap timer that learns the road course lap through GPS and then displays lap times and other metrics, such turn entering and exiting speeds, straightaway top speeds, etc.  (This is already available in the aftermarket.)

What do you want?

The title on the Dallas Craigslist ad simply reads “1999 Chevrolet Corvette Yellow 8 Cylinder Automatic Coupe – $104,900”. Savvy internet searchers will immediately notice the $105k price tag and wonder what kind of C5 can merit such a lofty sum. Well, this one can as it’s one of the 19 Callaway C12’s built in 1999. Click past the jump for more on this rare bird.

Ruf Automotive Centre in Carrollton, Texas is currently offering this yellow 1999 Callaway C12 for sale. According to the ad description, the car has travelled just 13,979 miles since new and has been well cared for by its previous owners. The 440hp Supernatural (non supercharged version) features the following options: LeMans brakes, coilovers, carbon fiber body, carbon fiber interior, Alpine Audiophile stereo, and Callaway sport seats. We’re especially enamored by the black/yellow combo interior. You’ll also note that there’s actually a 6 speed transmission lurking in there as opposed to the auto referenced in the ad. The selling dealer states that the original MSRP from Callaway was a staggering $204,565!

We did a little digging through the Callaway Owners Group website and this example appears to be car #15 built in 1999 and it’s one of only 2 yellow cars assembled that year. For reference, car #16, a blue automatic speedster with 10,000 miles sold earlier this year at Mecum’s Monterrey auction for $90,000. So the $104,900 asking price on this one doesn’t seem to be too far off.
