Joe Flickinger’s 1962 Resto-Mod Corvette

Joe Flickinger didn’t let this one get away.

Inspired by memories of a C1 that got away from him a long time ago, the Salina, Kansas man took charge this time, and the result is a 1962 Corvette resto-mod that’s absolutely music to his ears – and everyone who sees and hears it.

“You really don’t need a sound system because the sound you want to hear is the car going down the road,” he told the Wichita Eagle.

The car is a perfect blending of a 1962 Corvette that he found on eBay nearly five years ago and a low-mileage 2005 C6 that he bought after it had been wrecked.

SRIII Motorsports in New Lenox, Ill., shrunk the C6 chassis to fit the C1 body, and the result is a car that does not flex, unlike the original C1s, according to Flickinger.

Meanwhile, he had to do some motor work to the C6 because the accident apparently damaged the engine. But on the bright side, that just enabled him to bore the block out .01 of an inch and stroke it with longer connecting rods. Coupled with headers he built and a Comp Cams street camshaft he installed, the “new” motor now makes 500-hp. Plenty fast enough, but Flickinger says he hopes to raise that number to 600-hp with an upgrade to a dual throttle body injection system and a hotter cam.

Of course, paint is the finishing touch on a car like this, and Flickinger is thrilled with the results of Brad Umscheld of Paints Unlimited in Salina.

“He started at 6:30 in the morning and didn’t finish until 8:30 at night,” Flickinger said. “He told me his arm was about to fall off by the time he got done.”

The Sunburst Orange car didn’t even require color sanding between coats, just a light buffing after the final clearcoat, he said.

Flickinger handled the interior himself, narrowing each seat by an inch and using modern materials, including two-tone tan Euro Leather and carbon fiber to fabricate the passenger grab bar. Other interior goodies include a flat three-spoke steering wheel, an electric speedometer and accessory gauges by Classic Instruments fitted to original bezels, a Pioneer sound/navigation system, and a Vintage Air AC system.

[PICS] Corvette Z06 with D2Forged MB1 Wheels

The guys at D2FORGED sent over these pics from their latest photoshoot. The subject being a Cyber Gray Corvette Z06 with D2FORGED MB1 wheels. I just love the contrast that black wheels provide against Cyber Gray and the way the small touches of red trim on the lug nuts and center cap accent the red calipers.

This Corvette Z06 is set up with 20×10′s in the Front and 20×13′s in the Rear. The MB1′s are matte black face with titanium flange stripe and the centercap is hand painted with a red D2 emblem.

We also see it has an exhaust system from Akrapovic with the carbon fiber tips. So this Z06 probably sounds as good as it looks!

[VIDEO] C5 Corvette Drag Races an Electric SkateBoard

[VIDEO] C5 Corvette Drag Races an Electric SkateBoard

When you’re one of the world’s best-known sports cars, people like to draw a line in the sand and dare you to cross it.

But recently, Carbuzz.com, in its Drag Race Tuesday series, featured a video that threw a different opponent at a Chevrolet Corvette C5: a motorized skateboard.

The Gnarboards Trail Rider electric skateboard isn’t your ordinary board, however. Its four 850-watt electric motors join forces to make a whopping 4.5-hp, but the weight advantage over the 350-hp Corvette means that the Trail Rider can hold its own, at least in a short race.

The two foes squared off in a series of five 75-foot races, with the results highlighting the quick takeoff of the little machine created by Joshua Tulberg. He claims it can go from 0 to its maximum speed of 28 mph in just 1.9 seconds, and we wouldn’t argue. Because the Trail Rider maxes out at 28 mph, the Corvette was able to come back and pretty much see the series end in a tie, still quite an impressive feat for the skateboard.

The races were held to highlight the Gnarboards’ Kickstarter campaign, which is trying to raise cash to finish the company’s first batch of eight electric skateboards. Prices range from $2,900 for the base model Commuter up to $4,000 for the Trail Rider.

For the Woodward Dream Cruise, Chevy created the Corvette Time Line to honor the significant milestones during Corvette’s 60 years of production. As we wait for the unveiling of the C7 Corvette, this series of tribute videos will help set the stage for the future generation as well.
