What a line up for the 2014 â€œCorvettes in the D!”

Atlantic and Pacific model Corvettes, the Corvette Racing Trailer with the C7.R Corvette and Indy frame display, autograph sessions and posters, on-going seminars by Corvette mechanic Paul Koener and Brittany George, a Pratt Miller C6.R display, and more showcase the Saturday, June 14 “Corvettes in the D.”

The second annual event, which attracted more than 300 Corvettes last year, spreads out along the Detroit River at the GM World Headquarters in Detroit. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“You won’t find this collection of GM’s new and special Corvettes in one spot anywhere else,” reports Larry Courtney, coordinator for this year’s event. He also is captain of the Michigan/Indiana/Western Kentucky Corvette Caravan this August to the National Corvette Musuem

Corvette owners are invited to show their cars, which will be displayed in the east GM parking lot along the beautiful Detroit Riverfront, the world’s busiest international waterway.

A George Matick Chevrolet van will shuttle Corvette fans between the event site and the Renaissance Center, where participants can visit the GM vehicle displays inside the Ren Cen.

A $10 entry donation is encouraged with proceeds going to the National Corvette Museum and the 2014 Michigan/Indiana/Western Kentucky National Corvette Caravan.

Andiamo Pizza is the food vendor. A commemorative dash plaque will be presented to the first 300 Corvettes.

[VIDEO] Firefighters Save Man’s Prized 1970 Corvette from a House Fire

[VIDEO] Firefighters Save Man's Prized 1970 Corvette from a House Fire

We’ve told you sad news in the past about Corvettes being gutted by fires.

Today we have some good news, though, about a 1970 Corvette that was saved from ruin Saturday by quick-acting firefighters in Carmichael, Calif., who moved it out of the garage while flames were shooting out of the roof of a house.

At first, firefighters feared that an elderly man might have been trapped inside the burning house in the 6200 block of Meadowvista Drive.

But fortunately, a thorough search revealed that the house was indeed empty, though a resident of the house later came forward and told authorities he wasn’t at home during the fire.

The home suffered significant damage to the back porch and attic, Sacramento Metro Fire Captain Michelle Eidam said, and the living quarters were also moderately damaged.

Eidman says the blaze did about $100,000 in damage.

Still, it could have been much worse, with no humans injured and no classic Corvettes damaged. Firefighters emerged from the blaze without any injuries, too, and were able to keep any other homes from being damaged. They also report that two dogs escaped from the fire, though a third dog is still missing.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

[VIDEO] Wild 1998 Corvette Runs Over 200 mph at the Mojave Mile

Wild 1998 Corvette Runs 200 mph at the Mojave Mile

When Joel Feingold climbs behind the wheel of his 1998 Corvette, which he bought new in January 1998, it’s definitely not your typical C5.

Joel started his mods simply enough. Not satisfied with the stock exhaust sound, he added a Borla exhaust.

Then he added a cold air intake, headers, and an engine tune to get more power, but he still wasn’t done, not by a long shot.

This video shows Joel, who loves competing in standing start one-mile runs, during three runs in the Mojave Mile sponsored by MKM Racing at the Mojave airport’s 2.2 mile, 200-foot-wide runway.

Not just three runs, however. How about three consecutive runs over 200 mph, starting at 206.8 mph, dropping to 201.8 mph, and then climbing again to 202.5 mph!
What’s the secret to all this speed?

Says Joel: “I rev the engine to 2,500 rpm, let the clutch out and bring the Corvette to the point of losing traction. I short shift it at 5800 [rpm] into second and continue to fight for traction. Now I shift into third at 6300rpm where I can to go wide open throttle through the rest of the gears to sixth at 200+ mph.”

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that a 418cid stroked LS3 engine has been slammed under the hood, with AFR 225 heads custom ported by Tony Mamo.

Joel gets a broad torque range thanks to a cam grind specified by Ryan Cunningham of Cunningham Motorsports. An East Coast Supercharging C5 Corvette kit with a Paxton Novi 2000 supercharger and a 1,450 CFM intercooler definitely ups the horsepower.

He had an Aviaid 12-quart 4-stage dry sump oil system installed, and the engine was built by QMP Racing in Los Angeles.

It all adds up to one super-cool engine that produces an amazing 824-rwhp at 6,700 rpm and a rip-roaring 740 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm.

The long list of mods also includes a McLeod dual disc clutch, an RPM-modified six-speed manual transmission that uses G-Force low ratio 5th and 6th gears to get Joel moving as fast as possible, a UNITRAX differential with a 3:73 final drive, Pfadt coil-overs, Brembo GT brakes, and HRE 18×9.5 front and 18×10.5 rear wheels on Toyo R888 tires rated for 200 mph.

But this car is not all about performance. The exterior of this one-of-a-kind Corvette includes a custom silver and red paint job. The interior, meanwhile, features a Doug Rippie Motorsports 4-point roll cage welded to the frame and a racing seat with five-point restraint from which he watches custom gauges to keep in touch with his engine’s wild performance.

The engine has 10 hours on it since it was rebuilt in 2009 and produces 411 horsepower at the rear wheels. The engine has a roller cam, Barnes dry sump oil system, cast iron heads, MSD ignition system, a Holley performance intake manifold with a Holley 750 cfm carburetor. Hooker headers and sidepipes help the car to go fast and sound great. The list of new or rebuilt engine accessories goes on and on—please see the eBay ad for details.

If you’d like to add your name to the list of previous drivers that includes Doug Rippie, Frenchie Damper, Steve Strandemo and Doug Kelley, don’t dally. The eBay auction ends on June 13, 2014, but the car has been locally advertised and the present owner, Jim Glass, has reserved the right to end the auction early. The car is located at Jim Glass Corvette in Kingston NY.

Couple Picks Up a New Corvette Stingray and Donates a C4 to the Corvette Museum

When it comes to Corvette enthusiasts, they don’t come much more enthusiastic than Jack and Dor DeLong.

They’ve always made it clear that owning a Corvette is all about the memories they can make and share with others, so naturally they’ve been a major supporter of the National Corvette Museum. As Lifetime Members, they’ve donated money, bought bricks, and even “purchased” three acres at the soon-to-open NCM Motorsports Park.

Recently, they took their enthusiastic support a step further with the donation of their 1992 Corvette to the museum (having already donated a 1988 ‘Vette a few years ago).

Don’t fret, though. The DeLongs aren’t giving up on the Corvette lifestyle. Far from it, as they took delivery of a beautiful new C7 at the museum while donating the 1992 at the same time.

“This car is a special car to Dor and I,” Jack said of the ’92. “It was a gift that we gave to ourselves when we reached a point in life where we could really enjoy it. It was the first car we ever took to the Museum, and the first car that we took back to its birthplace at the Assembly Plant. We put many thousands of miles on this car going to countless NASCAR races, club events, and road tours, making memories every mile along the way.”

Friends and family members around the country were able to watch the momentous delivery/donation on May 27 through the webcams set up at the museum.

Said the museum on its blog: “Thank you Jack and Dor for donating another Corvette to the Museum and for taking delivery of your new one with us. We are so glad that you are a part of our family.”

For information on how you can donate your car to the National Corvette Museum, go to: www.corvettemuseum.org/donations/autos.shtml or send an email to the NCM to learn more about including the Corvette Museum in your estate planning. E-mail us at: giving@corvettemuseum.org.
