For nearly two years the fastest production car to ever lap Virginia International Raceway’s 4.1 Mile Grand Course was the 2019 Corvette ZR1 which broke a one-week old record set by the half-million dollar Ford GT when it stopped the clock at 2:37.25.
It took a car twice as expensive as the ultra-low production Ford to get it done, but the King of the Hill has been dethroned as VIR Grand’s quickest road car.

On Thursday, we were invited by Chevrolet to Petit Le Mans to hear about the new mid-engine Corvette C8.R racecar that was revealed earlier this month alongside the 2020 Corvette Stingray convertible at Kennedy Space Center. The new race car will take to the track for its first race at the 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.
BRASELTON, Ga. (Oct. 12, 2019) – Corvette Racing ended its run with the Chevrolet Corvette C7.R on Saturday with fourth- and seventh-place class finishes in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship’s Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller led Corvette Racing’s effort in the final race of the season.

As the C7.R era comes to a close, Corvette Racing offered a glimpse of the future with a demonstration lap Saturday morning before the start of Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
