Wil Cooksey Recieving Prestigious Lee Iacocca Award

In support of the true American tradition, the Lee Iacocca Award honors some of the worlds most committed classic-car (and Corvette) enthusiasts.

Now in it’s fourth year, the award was given to a true Corvette enthusiast. Wil Cooksey is not only a former manager of the Corvette Assembly Plant, but is also a member on the Board of Directors for the National Corvette Museum.

"Wil is simply an incredible individual. Whether in the car business, on the boards of non-profit community organizations or on the racetrack he never gives less than his all out best. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a car nut from head to toe, either," said Mike Callihan, president of the Gunnison Car Club.

The award will be presented to Cooksey in Gunnison, Colorado on August 21, 2010. Be sure to check out this site for more event details and pictures come late August.

Wet Car Crash

Huntington Beach police officers arrested Corvette ZR1 driver, Melvin Brown, 52, with suspicion of driving under the influence. Why, you might ask?

Brown recently rear-ended an Infiniti G35 sedan after reportedly driving erratically at more than 100 miles per hour along the Pacific Coast Highway, causing both vehicles to land into the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve wetlands.

One man on the scene jumped into the water to save the sinking Corvette driver, who was then later arrested. The driver of the G35 was able to evacuate on his own since his vehicle was only partly under water. Both drivers were then taken to the hospital on non-life-threatening injuries.

Moral of the story: Don’t drink and drive. Drive responsibly. And, avoid submerging your vehicle in water – that’s never good!  Video included after the jump!

Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach 2010: 2009 Competition Sport Corvette
