Hendrick Bids $297K for 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon at Palm Springs Barrett-Jackson

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited EditionOn the final day (April 3) of Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, the very first (still non-existent) 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition was auctioned off in front of a crowd of more than 50,000.

The winning bid of $270,000 went to Rick Hendrick, owner of one of the largest automotive chains in the U.S. – Hendrick Automotive Group. After tacking on additional auction commission and buyer fees, the final bid rang in at $297,000.

Of the 500 Corvette Z06 Carbons that will ever be produced, Hendrick will take home the very first with a VIN #001.

Hendrick will also get the opportunity to tour the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom AND watch the assembly of his brand new vehicle at the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant later this summer.

For an automotive aficionado like Hendrick, what’s $297K? Pocket change, maybe.

The DRAGON ‘Vette

Imagine the worst possible custom color AND paint job one could give their Corvette…

That’s exactly what one owner from Evansville, Indiana did to their Corvette, and then named it the DRAGON.

You name it, the DRAGON’s got it:

  • Lime green, red, black spray paint
  • Taped on chrome trim
  • Harley Davidson headlight visors
  • Custom lettering
  • A dragon painted on the hood

I really don’t think it can get much worse… or can it? Have you seen a really bad custom Corvette job? Let us know by blogging with us here., and check out the full set of pictures on the Jalopnik article below.

NCM’s C5/C6 Bash to Feature First Corvette to Win Le Mans

April 29th marks the first day of the National Corvette’s Museum annual 3-day C5/C6 Bash. In celebration of event, the first Corvette ever to win a Le Mans race will be on display – a 1960 Cunningham Corvette!

The 1960 Le Mans win ranked Corvette first in the GT class and eight overall. Believe it or not, it wasn’t until 41 years later (2001) that Corvette would win another Le Mans race!

Having this history-making vehicle on display will help fans pause and reflect on the huge strides that Corvette Racing has made not only with Le Mans but with all racing.

The C5/C6 Bash will also be hosting lots of other events for families to see and do, including: road tours, digital scavenger hunt, drag racing, seminars, silent auctions, autograph sessions, poker run, dyno pulls, car show and a fun-filled Margaritaville Banquet party.
