The 12 Corvettes of Christmas

The 12 Corvettes of Christmas

As Christmas quickly approaches we’re sure most of you are busy attacking the malls and online stores like we are grabbing sweaters, gifts cards and such. What if shopping was more fun? Say everyone on your list wanted a Corvette and money was no option? Fact: Corvette shopping is way more fun than regular shopping. To support this we made a list of significant cars and checked it twice. You can check it out too after the break.

Here are the 12 (ok, technically it’s 14) Corvettes we’d like Santa to park under the tree this year. They range from the ultra-rare to all-out race cars. Some make the list purely due to their value. Others due to their head-turning factor. All are rare and prized to collectors. And, as to be expected, almost all of them are well beyond our Christmas budget.

So, on now to our list of the 12 Corvettes of Christmas. You’ll have to provide the signing as we’re pretty sure we’d damage the speakers on your computer if we sang.

  1. 1953 VIN 003
The first production Corvette. Enough said.
  2. 1955, 1956, and 1957 VINs 001
Probably the most significant VIN 001 collection out there. A bid just shy of $3,000,000 couldn’t buy them.
  3. First Fuelie
The first fuel injected Corvette. Wonder if that technology will ever catch on?
  4. The Scaglietti Corvettes
Corvette + Carol Shelby = awesome
  5. Gulf One
    What’s better than a ’63 Z06 couple? A dominant racing ’63 Z06 coupe.
  6. 1967 435hp Convertible: At the top of any Corvette must-have list. We’ll take ours in Sunfire Yellow with black interior and soft top.
  7. Any L88
If you missed the L88 invasion at Bloomington Gold a couple years ago, you missed something very special.
  8. 1st Gen ZR-1
Vary rare and very expensive. We’ll take one from any year 1970-1972. We’re not picky.
  9. 1971 ZR2
A low production, factory built big block racecar? Yes, please.
  10. 1995 ZR-1
The 2nd generation of ZR-1’s farewell. 405hp. Buy one now before they get really expensive.
  11. 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06
A fitting salute to success at Lemans.
  12. C6 ZR1
    638hp. 205mph. $120k. Find another car that’ll do that.

Merry Christmas from CorvetteBlog

It has been a pleasure serving you via CorvetteBlog in 2011.  Thanks for spending time with us.

We try to bring a variety of Corvette-themed information to you every year.  We update ordering information ("constraints") from the factory every week (usually on Friday).  We show you pictures of Corvettes we’ve seen at car shows and other events.  We tell you about the new options, colors, and equipment.

And, of course, a big part of the fun is to bring you the latest from the C7 Rumor Department.  We also report on the biggest Corvette events east of the Mississippi, including events at the National Corvette Museum, Corvettes at Carlisle, and the Corvette Funfest.

We love to write about the many great activities in Michigan, too.  From America’s Corvette Club’s summer Corvettes America Show to Corvettes on Woodward to the Woodward Dream Cruise, and all the stops between.  We visit Lingenfelder, the GM Heritage Center, Corvette suppliers in metro Detroit, and several of the local "Show and Shines."  And this next year, we will be at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix to cover Chevrolet’s involvement.

In addition, from time to time, we present Corvettes in our dealership’s inventory, and explain current incentive programs from Chevrolet.  We are always looking to provide the best value for you in your new or used Corvette purchase!

We look forward to spending time with you in 2012, and once again, Merry Christmas to you all!

All Roads Lead to Bowling Green

They come from miles around…lines of colorful Corvettes, all generations represented, traveling from every one of the continental United States, from Canada, and even from a few other countries, to gather at the Home of the Corvette.  2014 will bring the 5th National Corvette Caravan, and will mark the 20th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum.

The 5th National Corvette Caravan will take place the last week of August, 2014.  State and/or regional caravans will form, and then join other caravans, as thousands of Vettes travel together across the United States to gather in Bowling Green, Kentucky for four days of fun and festivities at the National Corvette Museum.

Leading the spectacle will be Paul Mariano of Huntersville, N.C. (seen at the right), a 20-year Museum member, who is not only a Lifetime Member of the Museum, but also a Founding Member.  "A national caravan such as this requires years of planning and coordinating, and the Museum is fortunate to have a volunteer like Paul to take on this monumental task," stated National Corvette Museum Executive Director, Wendell Strode.

Also, if you are a caravan captain, and would like a post on your state and/or region, please email me the particulars at bill@corvetteblog.com, and we will help you tell your story.

This map shows the various caravan starting point areas.  Sometimes a single state, like New Jersey.  Sometimes less than a state, like most of Michigan.  Sometimes multiple states, like New Mexico and Arizona.

[VIDEO] LMR Claims Title as World’s Fastest Corvette ZR1

[VIDEO] LMR Claims Title as World's Fastest Corvette ZR1

It was back in May that we brought you the news of Late Model Racecraft’s 1500 hp twin turbo Corvette ZR1 that ran 231 mph at the Texas Mile to claim the title as World’s Fastest Corvette in the Standing Mile. Not content to rest on their laurels, the Houston-based tuner has turned some wrenches on another Corvette ZR1 which they claim is now the fastest Corvette ZR1 in the world!

Like its Standing Mile cousin, this Black Corvette ZR1 features a fully customized twin-turbo setup with new headers and high-flow catalytic converters. Horsepower is said to be 1,500 – at the wheels!

In this run captured on video, the LMR-tuned Corvette ZR1 ran 9.68 seconds in the quarter mile with an exit speed of 147 mph.

That run, according to Late Model Racecraft, makes this the world’s fastest Corvette ZR1. And while we appreciate their efforts and enjoy the entertainment of watching a 9.68 second Corvette ZR1, consider the time and money that went into the LMR Corvette ZR1 vs this otherwise stock Corvette ZR1 (with drag radials) that ran the quarter mile last week at MIR in 10.33 seconds at 133 mph.
