Corvette Market Magazine Now a Part of American Car Collector Magazine

Keith Martin, host of "What’s My Car Worth?" on the Velocity TV Network, has been involved with the collector car hobby for more than thirty years.  He founded the monthly Sports Car Market Magazine some twenty years ago, and then in 2007, he began publishing Corvette Market Magazine.

Regardless of what he does with automobiles, Keith excels in his knowledge, and translates his experience and understanding into wisdom for average guys with big money, so that wiser decisions can be made about acquisitions and restoration (or not).

Recently, Keith has expanded the range of his Corvette magazine to include virtually all U.S. makes, and the magazine is now called American Car Collector.  While Corvette is still included in the new publication, more than that, Corvette is specifically included.  I have just examined Volume 1, Issue 1 (January-February 2012) to evaluate the value of the new magazine to Corvette enthusiasts.

In addition to in-depth profiles of GMs, Mopars, and FoMoCos sold at auction, each issue of American Car Collector will have a column and profile dedicated only to Corvettes.  The issue I examined includes a column by John L. Stein entitled Corvette Country.  The article was titled, "They all look tasty; Pick a flavor."  The issue’s profile is on the 1965 327/375 Fuelie Coupe (pictured here).

The same expertise that made Keith Martin’s Sports Car Market the industry standard for car aficionados has been brought to bear on American cars, and collectors are finally getting the attention they deserve!

KBB Ranks the 2011 Corvette as Top Holiday Car Deal

KBB Ranks the 2011 Corvette as Top Holiday Car Deal

With end of the year car sales in full swing, the experts at Kelley Blue Book have put together a Top 10 list to showcase ten of the most heavily discounted cars and trucks available. The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe was listed in the #1 position as the best new car deal this holiday season.

With its #1 selection as the top 2011 holiday car deal, Kelley Blue Book writes the following about the 2011 Chevy Corvette:

Once hailed as America’s only true two-seat sports car, the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette continues to offer driving enthusiasts the most bang for the buck, running neck-and-neck (and in some cases surpassing) exotic cars costing up to four times as much – or even more. Nowhere else but in America can you find a two-seat sports car costing roughly $50,000 and delivering 430 horsepower while returning an EPA highway fuel economy figure of 26 miles per gallon.

For the last few months, General Motors has had some really good rebates and incentives for both 2011 and 2012 Corvettes and we are sure that was one of the primary factors in ranking the 2011 Corvette Coupe #1 on the KBB list.

Current offers on the remaining 2011 Corvette stock include a $3,000 rebate or financing 0% down for 60 months or 2.9% for 72 months. Additionally, current Corvette owners (any year, but must have valid registration) can get another $3,000 rebate towards the purchase of a new Corvette.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Our friends at Kerbeck Corvette are now telling us that GM will be discontinuing the $3,000 Corvette owner rebate on January 3, 2012. Other rebates that are also scheduled to end include the $1,500 dealer cash and the $2,000 lease conquest rebate.

However, it’s still not to late to take advantage of these programs! Kerbeck has over 70 Brand New Corvettes in stock and available right now with huge discounts to add on to these programs as long as you act before 01/03/12. Call Dave Salvatore at 877-537-2325 or email him at dave@kerbeck.com for pricing and availability.

Corvettes on Woodward Draws Over 550 Corvettes

One of the highlights of this past year for CorvetteBlog was to be a part of the Corvettes on Woodward Parade.  The event, with every Corvette generation represented, was staged at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Through the course of the afternoon, vendors presented their wares, and seminars were presented on matters of interest to Corvette owners.  For example, the fine folks from Callaway Cars (Chris Chessnoe and Mike Zoner) were present to answer questions about the awesome history and product emanating from their factories in Connecticut and California.

At a time prearranged with the police department, two lanes of southbound Woodward Avenue (famous for the Woodward Dream Cruise every August) were cordonned off by the authorities, and the Corvettes were flagged out onto the road.  Over a period of a little over half an hour, an amazing 563 Corvettes participated!

This event has been staged for some years now, and while there is no fee to participate, funds are still raised for the Open Hands Food Bank in Royal Oak.  It was great to be a part of an event so big, but that also provided a chance to help those who are struggling in this economy with food donations.  Thanks go to Larry and Verna Courtney for an organizing job well done!

Christmas and Corvettes: “The Quest” DVD is the Ultimate Stocking Stuffer

Christmas and Corvettes:

If there is a “one size fits all” gift we can recommend for your favorite Corvette enthusiast, it’s the DVD documentary called “The Quest”. Based on the story of Corvette’s first win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, “The Quest” tells the story of how one man’s dream to find and restore the winning Le Mans race car was cut short and how his son set out to fulfill his dad’s dream of returning the Corvette to Le Mans with its original driver to mark the 50th anniversary of its historic win.

“The Quest” re-visits the 1960 race through color film shot at the time. It also re-creates what happened to each of the four Corvettes after they disappeared for decades. Never before seen footage, photos and interviews help bring this amazing story to life.

As collectors and restorers recognized the historical importance of the former racing Corvettes, they went looking for them. Chip Miller, renowned collector and co-founder of Corvettes at Carlisle, set a goal of finding and acquiring the #3 class-winning 1960 Corvette…with a dream of restoring it and taking it back to Le Mans in 2010, with John Fitch, one of its original drivers.

Within only a few years of completing his dream, Chip Miller died from an extremely rare disease called amyloidosis. His goal was cut short in 2004. But his son, Lance, picked up Chip’s quest and took the car and its driver back to Le Mans in June of 2010…marking 50 years of Corvette Racing at Le Mans…and fulfilling his late father’s dream.

“The Quest” is a heart-warming story of visions cut short, obstacles to success and a son’s love of his father. The documentary has something for everyone… whether hard core car enthusiast or someone who just loves a good story.

You can purchase “The Quest” on DVD for $20 at The Quest Documentary. It’s also available from our friends at CorvetteCentral.com.

[RUMORS] Garcia Gets Full Time Ride at Corvette Racing; Beretta Could Be Out

[RUMORS] Garcia Gets Full Time Ride at Corvette Racing; Beretta Could Be Out

Over the last few days, we’ve been on the receiving end of some pretty interesting rumors regarding Corvette Racing. About this time every year, Fehan and the team review their driver lineups for the coming season and decisions are made on which drivers will be offered full time rides vs the part time endurance races. What we’ve been hearing so far is that Antonio Garcia will become a full-time driver for the Corvette Racing team. Multiple unconfirmed reports are listing Olivier Beretta as the driver that Garcia will be replacing.

Garcia’s rumored ascendency to a full time driver status was likely cemented in France during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With Beretta sick from exhaust fumes, Garcia and Milner ran double and triple stints to put the #73 Corvette C6.R at the top of the GTE-Pro class.

Garcia joined the team as one of the two part-time endurance drivers with Corvette Racing in 2009. During his career which also saw him as a member of the arch rival Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 team, Garcia has three first place class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans including two with Corvette Racing.

Garcia’s full-time ride last year was with the GRAND-AM team Spirit of Daytona while driving the #90 DP. We last saw him in Daytona for the testing the new Corvette Daytona Prototype with Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Richard Westbrook.

ALMS prognosticator Murphy the Bear tweated earlier this week that Garcia would be racing full time for Corvette Racing next year and that the other Corvette Racing part-time endurance driver Richard Westbrook will replace Garcia on the Spirit of Daytona team. In another tweet this morning, the Bear claims that “Most likely – but not certain – regular ALMS driver displaced by Garcia is Olivier Beretta, according to other sources”.

Beretta has been a member of Corvette Racing since 2004. He has 4 class wins with the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is the most successful driver in ALMS history with 41 career victories and 23 career poles through 2010.

Corvette Racing usually maintains radio silence during the off-season and especially in matters pertaining to driver changes, so we have yet to hear anything official at this point. But when it does come, we’ll bring to you immediately!
