The start of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show officially gets underway early next week but that hasn’t stopped GM from releasing the first two official photos of the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible ahead of its planned reveal on Tuesday, March 5th.

The photos confirm that the new Corvette Stingray convertible indeed comes as a ragtop with a design that seems to resemble that of the C6 convertible soft top. The brown top perfectly matches the new brown interior as well. The two pictures only show the Corvette from the front so we’ll have to wait until Tuesday’s reveal to get a really good look from the rear.

Geneva has proven to be a great place to showcase a new Corvette on the world stage. The 1990 Corvette ZR1 and the 2005 Corvette Convertible both made their world debuts at the Geneva Motor Show.

Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter says that “every Corvette is designed at the outset as an open car.” He adds, “The new Stingray is no different, with the coupe and convertible designed to excel in any situation – be it your daily commute, a drive across the continent, or charging through twisting backroads.”

Chuck Jordan’s 1967 Corvette Batmobile

Chuck Jordan's 1967 Corvette Batmobile

Randy Leffingwell’s outstanding book – Corvette Sixty Years – offers this rare photo of a 1967 427 “Corvette Batmobile” that apparently was the result of a request from officials with the 1960s TV show, Batman.

“I’ve met Chuck Jordan several times over my career writing Corvette histories. This photo seems so implausible: dapper, disciplined Chuck sitting on a cartoon. Series creator Bob Kane and executive producer William Dozier asked GM Design’s help in creating a suitable escape car for their lead character, Batman. The TV show ran from 1966 through 1968 and starred Adam West.”

That’s what Leffingwell writes in his book of this photo, which makes one wonder how seriously GM took the request of the series executives.

While a C2 Corvette is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the 1967 Batmobile is hopefully a tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek idea of what Chevy thought the Batmobile should look like – completely with stick-on Batman logos on the front end and headlights and huge rear spoiler.

For those who have been critical of the C7’s new rear treatment, they should take a good look at this 1960s creation!

Obviously, most folks will be glad that the TV show stuck with George Barris’ excellent Batmobile which recently sold at Barrett-Jackson for $4.2 million!

At least we can rest easy knowing that this Corvette Batmobile was easily able to be converted back to a normal – and beautiful – C2 Corvette!

At this moment, a caravan of Corvettes is following a Chevy transport vehicle across Europe as it heads to the Geneva Motor Show. Inside that transport are both the 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe and the not-yet-seen Convertible model. However, at a recent stop in Germany where the Stingray Coupe was rolled out and displayed for enthusiasts, we got this sneak peek of the Convertible under its car cover.
