February 2010 Corvette Sales

Corvette sales hit a new low last month with just 624 Corvettes delivered during February 2010. That’s a decline of -39% from February 2009’s 1,027 sales figure and -26.9% off of January 2010’s 854 deliveries. A shortened selling period of 24 days combined with several winter storms that blanketed much of the country is to blame for the decline. [More]

The Ultimate Trade

Petroleum tycoon, Carlton Beal Jr., just recently made the trade of all trades at the All American Chevrolet dealership in Midland, Texas.

Beal traded his 2008 red-on-black Bugatti Veyron for a Corvette ZR1!

With 20,307 miles on the odometer, the seemingly new Bugatti Veyron actually matches up well to the ZR1. The Veyron clocks 0-to-60MPH in just 2.4 seconds, reaching high speeds of 253 miles per hour. The ZR1, on the other hand, reaches the 0-to-60 MPH mark in 3.3 seconds and high speeds of 205 miles per hour. Not too shabby.

The only strong difference: cost. A new Veyron runs for $1,600,000, a ZR1 only $107,000. With such a huge cost gap, the dealership wouldn’t accept the Veyron trade-in until they lined up a buyer, which they did.

Overall, in my opinion, Beal was smart in this trade… Not only did he regain some cashflow, but he is also the proud owner of an American-made vehicle that performs nearly as well as his former European ride.

Cadillac’s ‘Golden One’. History of the Cadillac Eldorado

Today, if you want the finest, most prestigious, most glamorous car south of a Rolls Royce, what model comes to mind? Maybe a Mercedes CL-something-er-other? Lexus GS? Maybe a Cadillac such-and-such-TS? Well, from the 1950s, and well through the 1970s, there was no doubt which car was the Mac-Daddy. It was the Cadillac Eldorado.

Comparisons Calling the 1962 Corvette the “Marilyn Monroe of Cars” Ring True

Comparisons

So what does the Chevrolet Corvette and movie star Marilyn Monroe have in common? Seductive, voluptuous, hot, fast and sexy is how Paul Niedermeyer from The Truth About Cars describes both of these American icons. There are other comparisons as well including how both started from humble beginnings and then went on to capture the hearts of Americans and world. You owe it to yourself to check out this great read, however, keep in mind that some of the images are Not Safe For Work (NSFW)!

From the comments section comes one of the best quotes about Corvettes I have read in along time:

Every man should own a ?Vette during his lifetime, however briefly. It will then become the benchmark for comparison for every other car he drives for the rest of his life…
