[PICS] Subtle Outrageousness: 1964 Corvette Named “Lydia”

[PICS] Subtle Outrageousness: 1964 Corvette Named Lydia

This is Lydia. She began life as a basic 1964 Corvette coupe and was transformed into the finely sculptured piece of art you see here by B Rod or Custom of Knoxville, TN. Lydia was another one of our other favorites from this years’ Autorama in Detroit.

Like Sixty-Two Twelve which we told you about earlier this week, Lydia strikes the perfect chord between subtlety and outrageousness. Look closely and you’ll see mild fender flares over the 17” front and 18” rear wheels. Inside, take note of the C6 paddle shifters tucked neatly behind the leather wrapped steering wheel and the one-off custom gauges. Upfront there’s a custom chin spoiler hiding beneath the front bumpers. Out back you’ll find 6 taillights and a center mounted exhaust.

The body wears a pearlized Gunmetal gray shared with Audi’s R8 and a 1967 big block hood with traditional stinger. It rests on a custom chassis supplier by Street Shop, Inc with C4 Corvette suspension. The drivetrain consists of a GM Performance LS 376/480 crate motor mated to a TCI 6 speed transmission with the aforementioned paddle shifters and a Dana 44 rear end with 3.54 gears. Lydia exhales through 3” stainless steel exhaust which exits through Billy Boat Z06 mufflers and 4 center mounted chrome tips. The interior features C6 Corvettes seats, a host of wood, and miles of leather.

For more info on this fantastic Corvette you can check out B Rod’s Smugmug gallery or you can follow the history of Lydia’s build on their blog. One interesting thing we found out about the build was a small paint issue that ended up causing a complete repaint of the car which consumed 4 months of build time!

February 2012 Corvette Sales

February 2012 Corvette Sales

We got the new sales figures for February from General Motors yesterday and it looks as though Corvette Sales have rebounded from the dismal 629 Corvettes sold in January. In February, 927 Corvettes were delivered to new owners. This is slightly down from 2011′s 955 Corvettes sold. For the year, sales are running -7.2% off of 2011 with 1,556 total deliveries so far in 2012.

The General released a new round of incentives for Corvette. There is now 0% APR up to 60 months on all new 2012 Corvettes and 2.9% APR for 72 months. The $1,500 dealer cash is still in effect and can be combined with the 0% financing offer. There is also a $3,000 retention offer but you must be on the list. Check with your dealer for details. If you’re looking for a deal on a 2011, GM sweetened the pot there as well. You can get 0% APR for 72 months or a $4,000 rebate. Unfortunately, the rebate cannot be combined with the 0% financing. These current incentives run through April 30, 2012.

[VIDEO] The Beauty of a 1969 Corvette Stingray

[VIDEO] The Beauty of a 1969 Corvette Stingray

The beauty of the Chevrolet Corvette has been captured by many photographers for the past 60 years, but a slick video of a red 1969 Stingray on the creative website called Vimeo lifts the game to a brand new level.

Vimeo describes itself as a “respectful community of creative people who are passionate about sharing the videos they make.” It would be hard to argue with that evaluation after watching this video.

“I made this video out of my fascination to the night lights and how they work on the body of a beautiful car,” the artist says in the caption.

Beginning with a variety of close-up still shots of the 427-powered car, he then moves into action video on interstates and in tunnels, with the reflected light giving new and unique looks of the Corvette.

The cameraman obviously put a lot of time and effort into making the video, using his Canon 550D, equipped with EF-S 18-55mm and 55-250 lenses, to capture the Corvette and its surroundings from many different angles and different locations on the car. The editing is especially effective as he switches from angle to angle, showing dashes of light reflecting off the moving vehicle that seem to be moving and sliding off of it.

[POLL] Should Corvette Split off from Chevrolet?

Sounds like coffee without cream to some folks, but believe it or not, at the turn of the century, General Motors was apparently considering the possibility of making Corvette a brand of its own, according to the recent recollections of Rick Kranz, product editor for Automotive News.
