Weekly Corvette Ordering Constraints

Once again, CorvetteBlog is first to provide the complete list of current constrained items when ordering 2013 CorvettesCorvettes ordered this week will be built between November 19-21.

The big news this week is that the Material Restriction on Q6B 20 Spoke Chrome Aluminum Wheels is over!  These wheels are now plentiful and fully available!

GLB SuperSonic Blue Metallic and 28U Inferno Orange both remain on Buildout Restriction, meaning that these colors are no longer available for ordering.  They are gone for Model Year 2013.  We may be able to find you a car in these colors through a search of dealer’s lots, however.

All trim levels (1SA/1SB/1SC) of the 427 Convertible remain on Material Restriction, a matter they expect to be resolved in longer than 4 weeks.  However, 20% of orders are being processed, so order now; maybe your order will be picked up!

Let me say that we haven’t been told the exact cutoff date for ordering a 2013 Corvette, but it is coming up pretty soon.  It may very well be as soon as November.  Remember this is a transitional year for the factory, so it will be closing very early next year (and then for maybe as long as six months).

If you’re looking to custom order any of the seven Corvette models: Coupe or Convertible, Grand Sport Coupe or Convertible, 427 Convertible, Z06, or ZR1, please look no further than right here at CorvetteBlog.com. Also, if you need a Callaway Corvette of any variety, contact us now!  We even have one of just a few B2K Collector’s Edition Callaway Corvettes that remain.

We are uniquely positioned, with allocation, to provide you extremely aggressive quotes on purchasing or leasing the Corvette of your dreams. Please leave a comment below (which will be kept private) or give us a call at 313-531-7100 to learn more about how competitive we can be. We also offer nationwide shipping and delivery.

Corvettes on Craigslist: 1974 Corvette Wagon

Corvettes on Craigslist: 1974 Corvette Wagon

So you want to set out on a trip across America in your two-seater C3 Corvette, but don’t want to hook up a U-Haul trailer behind it?

Well, a Boston-area man has just the ticket for you on Craigslist – a 1974 custom Chevrolet Corvette Panel Wagon.

We remember seeing these conversion kit cars back in the day but haven’t seen one in years, other than flipping through some old copies of Corvette magazines.

This car, which is listed on Craigslist for $25,000, was built by hand by the original owner and he says it underwent a frame-up restoration within the past five years.

This is definitely not your everyday run-of-the-mill Corvette. From the T-tops back, the rear has been replaced with a custom-made station wagon body making it look somewhat similar to a Corvette hearse, with solid fiberglass on each side and a narrow glass window on the back. We’re not sure how easy it would be to drive since it appears to have major blind spots, but you could definitely fit some luggage in there on your trip!

The car features power steering, brakes, and windows and has many new parts, including wiring harness, tires and wheels, brakes, calipers, rotors, carpet, seats, door panels, console, and shocks, along with a rebuilt TH400 transmission.

The Flowmaster dual exhaust with headers no doubt makes this unusual Corvette sing a pretty tune as it vents the GM 350 crate motor installed less than 1,000 miles ago with a Holley carburetor, polished Edelbrock manifold, and chrome valve covers.

The odometer reads just 44,378 miles.

Get packing and go see the USA in a Chevrolet!

[PICS] Mid America Motorworks’ 2012 Corvette FunFest a Huge Success

Kerbeck's 9th Annual Atlantic City Toys for Tots Corvette Cruise

The Fun is over for another year. The Corvette Funfest, that is.

Corvette owners by the thousands poured into Effingham, Illinois last month for Mid America Motorworks’ 19th annual Corvette Funfest.

And the Effingham Daily News is reporting that the event once again more than lived up to its name.

“We just like coming out here and hanging out with everyone who has similar interests,” said John Deffenvaugh. “It’s all about sharing your life with other Corvette lovers.”

He and his wife Dana won a Celebrity Choice award with their blue 1966 convertible Stingray, but the camaraderie with other Corvette enthusiasts was the biggest prize for them.

The economy in Effingham picked up a prize, too, with local hotels and restaurants reporting brisk business thanks to the Funfest.

Just ask Corvette owner Brenda Murphy, who says she’s been coming to the festival for about 10 years.

“When we come in, we’re greeted by the people at this hotel who know us from last year,” said Murphy outside the Comfort Suites hotel on 1310 W. Fayette St., sitting with her husband Jim and a group of friends. “We get to know them, they know us.”

Murphy isn’t alone in her enthusiasm for Effingham and the Funfest.

In fact, a 2009 study found that the event generated at least $4.1 million in revenue with more than 17,000 people eating, sleeping, and buying merchandise.

At this year’s event was a typical attendee, Mike McGuirk. He and his son drove two Corvettes to the show, a 1962 and a 2002, and Mike pointed out that Effingham is a “really nice play to come.”

Murphy agreed with that analysis, referring to her fellow Corvette enthusiasts as her “brother and sisters” even though they’re not related.

“This is a family reunion,” she said. “We’ve had weddings here in the parking lot, we had a wedding reception here in the parking lot with a cake. We even had a divorce here once.”

Pete McAllister, who won two awards with his 1996 blue Grand Sport – a Celebrity Choice and the Chief’s Choice, says the Funfest is a “real well put on event. It’s in a nice open area that people can congregate and come together in. You just get to get together with the other enthusiasts just to talk.”

John Deffenvaugh vows to return next year and offers up this message to his fellow Corvette fanatics: “If you have a Corvette and you’re not coming here, you’re missing out.”

Mike Yager Barn Find

Barn Find Mike Tells Story
Mike Tells His Story

Mike Yager knows how to recount an experience.  Corvette Funfest enthusiasts who purchased the Ultimate Package this year were provided with a special visit to the MY Garage Museum (right on the premises of Mid-America Motorworks), hosted by Mike himself.

Mike shared some of the backstory on his acquisition of a number of his Corvettes, including the “barn find” that is pictured on the front of his book, Mike Yager’s Corvette Bible.

This vehicle had been housed in a barn about 30 miles from Effingham for decades!  When Mike arrived, he discovered that there was a tree that had grown across the door, and that all means of access into the building had been nailed shut.  After considerable effort, the barn’s owner opened the door for Mike to discover an extremely poorly kept 1957 Corvette (sitting on a tubular steel trailer) with no workable anything!

Rather than spend way too much money on a restoration, Mike decided to preserve the “find” as an example of aging vehicles that are sure to still be out there in other barns across the country.  After seeing this one, though, I’m not sure too many of us are going to be motivated to keep looking.

I’m not sure if Mike ever finished that cookie in his hand, he was so caught up with telling us how it came to be, including finding an opposum skeleton in the passenger side floorboards.

[ACCIDENT] Corvette Burns to the Ground after Rear-Ended by a Pickup Truck

This classic Corvette was a total loss and its driver was badly burned after a two-vehicle accident in Tempe, AZ this Monday.

Police said the Corvette was rear ended by a pickup truck and the impact spun the sports car out into the intersection where it caught fire. The driver of the Corvette was on fire after exiting his car and he suffered second degree burns.

According to abc15.com, Tempe police Sgt. Jeffrey Glover said the Corvette and the pickup were driving northbound on Scottsdale Road when the pickup rear-ended the Corvette near Weber drive. The cause of the accident was still unclear.

The unidentified Corvette driver is reportedly in stable condition with second degree burns to 70% of his body. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

Kerbeck's 9th Annual Atlantic City Toys for Tots Corvette Cruise

Looking for a really cool Corvette event to participate in this weekend? It’s Kerbeck Corvette’s 9th Annual Toys for Tots Corvette Cruise in Atlantic City. The cruise brings together hundreds of Corvettes and thanks to you, thousands of toys are donated to the Marine Corps Reserve League.

The Toys for Tots Cruise returns to Bader Field airport, across the street from Kerbeck in Atlantic City. A group of Corvettes will be meeting at the Farley Plaza on the Atlantic City Expressway (around mile marker 20) for the final 20 mile cruise to Bader Field.

Food, live music and door prizes will be provided and all participants will receive a commemorative dash plaque and tickets for the door prizes. Trophies for different categories will include Oldest Corvette, Longest Travel Corvette, Highest Mile Corvette, Club Participation and Celebrity Choice Awards.

The Grand Marshal for this year’s cruise will be a fan favorite, Lance Miller, co-owner of Carlisle Events! With so many cars to choose from, we’re wondering which car he will bring to lead the cruise!

Also joining the cruise this year will be Bowling Green Assembly Quality Control Manager Steve Grilli, GM National Sales Jay Ferraro, Tom Ferraro and Karen Calhoun from Chevrolet Motor Division and Mayor Lorenzo Langford of Atlantic City!

New for this year, the Sports Car Collectors of America (SCCA) will be staging a solo auto cross course at Bader Field. Take your Corvette and see how good your times are.

Corvette Racing will be sending their display rig to the Toys for Tots event as well. Included is the #3 Corvette C6.R show car, Corvette ZR1 cutaway chassis, Interactive technology display, 2011 C6.R Race engine and the GM Performance Parts and Accessories display.

The Toys for Tots Cruise is free of charge. All Kerbeck asks is that you bring one or more new, unopened and unwrapped toy(s) for the Marine Corps Reserve League. If the toys require batteries, please tape them to the side of the package.

Check out this video from last year’s cruise:
