We got this report today which details Corvette sales by dealers for the calendar year 2014 and thought it was worth sharing. With over 3,000 Chevrolet dealers across the country, these 87 dealers represent approximately 41% of all Corvette sales from January-March 2014 which totaled 8,179.

[PICS] Laying Asphalt at the Corvette Museum's Motorsports Park

While the focus at the National Corvette Museum has centered around the sinkhole and recovering the fallen eight Corvettes, something remarkable is happening right across the street.

Construction crews at the NCM Motorsports Park began laying down asphalt on the paddock which will be used for a skidpad and autocross events.

NCM Motorsports Park officials posted this update on Facebook:

It is so exciting to see the pavement going down in the Paddock, Autocross pad area. Next up on the track Guard Rail will start going up next week on the inside of the track. We are a few weeks out from Lime Stabilization for the base of the racing surface and runoff areas. Things are starting to happen fast with the great weather.

The NCM Motorsports Park will officially open during the 20th Anniversary Celebration at the National Corvette Museum on August 27th-30th.

March 2014 Corvette Sales

General Motors released the latest monthly sales figures late afternoon yesterday. For March 2014, Corvette sales were booming with a total of 3,480 Corvettes delivered for the month. That was a 230.5% increase over the same time last year which saw just 1,053 Corvettes sold in March 2013. March 2014′s deliveries were 42.7% higher than the 2,438 deliveries in February 2014.

For the Calendar Year (January-March) 8,179 Corvettes were reported sold vs 2,941 in 2013 for an increase of 178.1%.

Historically, March has been a good month for sales as in many places the winter has subsided and sales of sports cars start to heat up in the spring and into the summer.

The last time this many Corvettes were sold in March was back in 2006 when 3,655 Corvettes were delivered. In fact, March 2014 will go down as the second best month for sales since March 2006. The best month came when Chevrolet released the Stingray to dealers last October 2013 which resulted in 3,929 deliveries.

Forgiato Widebody C7 Corvette Stingrays Now Available in Multiple Flavors

We’ve talked about the Forgiato Widebody C7 Corvette Stingrays before because frankly, we think they’re cool. And while some other auto sites and Corvette traditionalists continue to bash these cars, we hold them up as great examples of the what can be done with a base Corvette Stingray when you have time, money and a vision.

The Forgiato Corvette widebodies burst onto the automotive stage just before last year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. Having received their initial Corvette Stingray from our friends at Purifoy Chevrolet in Ft. Lupton, CO, the Corvette was modified in just a few weeks by the car designer Topo (aka The Widebody King) at TS Designs.

The custom Corvette widebody was a hit with the SEMA folks were it attracted some of the largest crowds each day. The SEMA judges were also taken and gave the car their 2013 SEMA Design Award for “Best Chevrolet Exterior”.

When we last talked about the Forgiato widebodies, it was because we had learned that they were making a special five unit run consisting of three coupes and two convertibles. They are using eBay to sell the cars and we’ve seen the listings for the Coupes set at $165,000. However, at the time, we only had photos of two coupes, both wearing that distinctive “Aston Martin Blue” paint scheme.

Now it appears that the special run of five vehicles is nearing completion as Forgiato is showing off a group of three widebody Stingrays which include the two Convertibles and one Coupe.

The twist though is that instead of every single widebody Corvette going with the original “Aston Martin Blue”, we see one of the coupes done in Tangelo Orange while a convertible is wearing a very red Red. (yes I meant to say it twice). The second convertible is available in the original AM Blue paint scheme.

Doing some digging, we found an active ebay ad for the Forgiato Corvette widebody Stingrays.

The auction runs for the next 20 days and ends on April 21st. We have seen previous ebay ads on these cars before so it’s no surprise that Forgiato is going with a longer ad run, especially when the pricing on these custom stingrays runs $165K. Friends Restore the 1964 Corvette for a Veteran with Terminal Cancer

Corvette enthusiasts have long been known for their kindness and generosity.

Check out this great example of how friends and fellow enthusiasts combined forces to make a dying Marine’s Corvette dream come true.

The story opens with Mike Kimmons, a former Marine staff sergeant who had served two tours in Vietnam, finding out just three months ago that he had only months to live because of liver cancer.

What would we do if we knew our days were short? Well, Mike told some friends that he sure would like to restore his 1964 Corvette, which he had parked 25 years ago when the wiring started smoking under the hood.

Like many of us, the daily realities of life took precedent over fixing the Corvette, and it sat there through the years. A month after his diagnosis, Mike casually told friends that his short bucket list would include taking his wife, Nancy, for another ride in their red convertible Sting Ray.

Close friend Dave Rusk decided to help make that dream a reality. He immediately texted another friend, George Hoellen, who is president and part-owner of T.O. Haas Tire, and asked for his help. Hoellen quickly texted back: “I’m in … call me!”

That set the wheels in motion for a rapid â€“ and secretive â€“ restoration by workers at Haas, including Bob Tindle, who inspected the motor and soon had it running again!

Other updates include a new gas tank, new brake systems, two gallons of transmission fluid, and a new exhaust system, radiator, and turn signal switch.

Finally, the refurbished red ’64 Sting Ray was ready to “Help a Marine,” as Rusk had dubbed the secret operation.

“The project involved nearly $3,000 in parts and $6,000 in labor donated by T.O. Haas,” said Rusk.

In an emotional presentation at a “Help a Marine Jam” session (especially meaningful since Kimmons was a life-long guitarist), Mike was reunited with his classic Corvette as friends and family watched.

That was March 8. Just six days later, Kimmons passed away because of the rapidly spreading disease.

“Mike is gone but will never be forgotten,” Rusk said. “He was a true Marine.”

We salute the good folks who helped make a dying hero’s dream come true!
