Rare Dick Guldstrand 2003 50th Anniversary 427 Corvette For Sale in Florida

By the time the 50th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette came around in 2003, Chevrolet’s vision for celebrating the milestone came in an exclusive “Anniversary Red” exterior with shale interior on standard Coupe and Convertible models. There would be no performance upgrades as well as no exclusivity. Chevrolet would build 11,632 Anniversary Editions. Dick Guldstrand, […]

Collectible Corvettes: 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette Convertible

The new Corvettes of today are superior in almost every way to the previous Corvettes we’ve seen and driven over the years, but there is one thing they don’t have and that’s nostalgia. We are now 15 years past all the hoopla and celebrations of Corvette’s 50th Anniversary in 2003 when it seems like it […]

Couple Donates Two Anniversary Corvettes to the National Corvette Museum

Photo Credit: National Corvette Museum We Corvette enthusiasts often refer to our cars as our “children.” Just as with our real children, though, sometimes we have to let our Corvettes go so they can soar on their own. That’s never been truer than in the case of a Texas couple who recently donated their 1978 25th Silver Anniversary Corvette and their 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette to the National Corvette Museum. “These are their children, and

Unique Golden Anniversary 1958 Corvette to Cross the Block at Mecum Indy

Of the many Corvettes that will be offered at Dana Mecum’s Indianapolis sale next week, this 1958 Corvette stands in a class all its own. Two things were going on back in 1958 when this Corvette was made. First the redesigned 1958 Corvette wore more chrome than any another Corvette that came before and secondly, […]

Happy 50th Anniversary to the Ford Mustang

Happy 50th Anniversary to the Ford Mustang

Just a quick note to say Happy 50th Anniversary to the Ford Mustang. If there is another automotive icon here in the States with a history like the Corvette, it’s the Ford Mustang.

A lot of Corvette people put down the Mustang, but you’ll never hear us utter a derogatory word about the car.

Ford’s Mustang made a great impact on my life on three different occasions and I can tell you for a fact that if there had been no Mustang, there would be no CorvetteBlogger.com.

I’ve told the story countless times, but here it is again once more for any new readers that may have joined us recently.

In 1966 my father was working for a Johnson & Johnson company called Ethicon and in 1966, J&J offered the top sales guys at each of their divisions the bonus of a new 1966 Ford Mustang. My father won the car. He picked it up from the Ford dealer and drove it straight to a Chevrolet dealer in Camden, NJ where it was traded in for a 1966 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible. I grew up in that car and own it today. I can tell you with certainty that had my Dad not received that Mustang, there would be no Corvette and therefore, no CorvetteBlogger.com.

My dad with his new 1966 Corvette

The second time that a Mustang entered my life was in 1986 when I was senior in high school. My first car was a 1972 Pontiac Catalina. It was gold with black vinyl top and with the bench seating, I could seat eight high school friends comfortably. It had a loud stereo and the car was very fast with its Pontiac 400 V8, but it was boat for sure.

For my 18th birthday, my mom surprised me with a 1979 fox-body Ford Mustang. It was a black with red interior and had a hatchback and was a great looking car. Opposite of the Catalina, it was slower but much better looking and it served me well into college before the four-cylinder engine gave way.

During the time I owned that Mustang, I subscribed to various Mustang magazines and I could name a dozen facts for you at the drop of a hat like the differences of the bodies based on the production years and which ones had the 351 Cleveland vs the Windsor engine and so on. You could say I was into it.

In 2000 or 2001, I actually started a Mustang classified ads website to compliment our Corvette classified ads site VetteFinders.com. But the cars and people were very much different than the Corvette community I was used to and so I eventually sold it and decided right then and there to concentrate exclusively on what I love – Corvettes.

So again, I say to all my Corvette friends to drop the cross-town rivalry for a day and help Ford celebrate this great milestone by wishing the Mustang a happy 50th Birthday!

Check out the press release that Chevrolet offered in support of the Mustang’s 50th Birthday.

Lance Miller to Sell Several Collectible Corvettes at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction

Lance Miller to Sell Several Collectible Corvettes at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale Auction

Earlier this year, the first 2014 Corvette Stingray was auctioned off at the annual Barrett-Jackson auction.

Now comes word that three very special Corvettes from the very distant past – plus a rare collectible – will be on the block at Barrett-Jackson on Jan. 18, 2014 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The four Corvettes all come from the collection of Carlisle Events co-owner Lance Miller.

First up is a super-nice 1953 Corvette – the 181st ever made – with just 9,260 miles! Then comes a tribute matching VIN #181 2003 50th anniversary Corvette with the same number of miles. You also get a pedal car VIN #181 scaled to match the ’53. Those three Corvettes will be sold as a package deal in lot numbers 5038 and 5038.1.

As if that weren’t enough, shortly before that trio crosses the block, another super-rare Corvette – the George Barris custom 1963 Corvette race and show car that’s known as the Asteroid Corvette – will be sold separately in lot number 5024.

You can watch the bidding live as all four cars go on the block during a two-hour special from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 18 on Fox.

“Along with the sale of the Asteroid Corvette the high bidder will receive a very nice original painting of the car doing a burnout along with trophies that the car won on the track and at various events. These items were purchased through the family of the original owner Bob Nordskog, who was chief editor and owner of Powerboat Magazine and had the painting on his office wall for years.”

“Having the painting and trophies available along with the Asteroid itself makes for a complete package that any true collector should want,” Miller said. “I’m excited to see in person each of these cars cross the block, and I think the viewing audiences, both in person in Scottsdale and those watching at home, will really enjoy what they see.”

You can get a sneak preview of these historic Corvettes, as well as hear comments from Lance Miller and his mother, during a program on Fox Sports 1 called “Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2014: The First Look” on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. EST.

[PIC] Throwback Thursday: Cedar Rapids Corvette Club in 1963

It’s the day before Friday which means it’s time for Throwback Thursday where we feature vintage photos of Corvettes. Our subject today is a group shot from the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club taken in the year of their founding, circa 1963.

The caption of the photo on the CRCC website reads:

The fall of 1963 finds CRCC members in front of their polished Vettes. In the front row (from left) are Bud Kirkpatrick, Floyd Dirks, Ron Denny, Harold Kennedy, Bill Fahey and Denny Thorson. In the second row are Don Schilling, Harry Rude, Ken Anderson, Joe Bernolfo, Bob Herring and Frenchie Massure.

What’s makes this picture particularly fun to post is that the club, which bills itself as the largest Corvette club in Iowa, recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary and took another group photo under the Blue Arch of Pat McGrath Chevrolet.
