[PIC] Throwback Thursday: William Shatner and a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe

It’s time for Throwback Thursday where we feature vintage photos of Corvettes. Today’s vintage picture features two culture icons, the 1963 split window Corvette coupe and actor William Shatner.

Without knowing the date, it’s hard to say exactly what Shatner was working on at the time the photo was taken. From Wikipedia, we know that he was making appearances in both TV shows and movies in 1962-1963 including The Outer Limits and Route 66. But it was in 1966 that he assumed his most famous role, that of Captain Kirk in the Star Trek series. Other notable characters for Shatner include being police officer T.J. Hooker and more recently, the Priceline.com Negotiator.

DVR Alert: Corvette to be Featured on the Season Finale of Americarna

Velocity’s Americarna wraps up season 1 this Tuesday, March 18th with an episode dedicated to America’s sports car, the Corvette. NASCAR team owner and avid Corvette collector Rick Hendrick will guest host this week’s show while country music superstar Brad Paisley also makes an appearance. This week we even get to see inside Hendrick’s massive car museum.

Americarna is hosted by 3-time NASCAR championship winning crew chief Ray Evernham. The show follows Evernham as he travels across the country seeking out some of the most iconic, unique, and influential cars built. Past episodes have focused on Smoky Yunick’s former race hauler to the origins of hot rods and drag racing.

The first season concludes this Tuesday March 18th at 8pm Eastern with an episode dedicated to Corvette. Rick Hendrick will fill in for Evernham with assistance from Brad Paisley. Together they’ll take a look back at Corvette’s 61 year history.

“We’re really lucky in America; we have this iconic sports car that’s so world renowned,” Paisley said.

We’ll also finally get a glimpse into Hendrick’s private car collection. That means we’ll finally get to see all of those pricey Corvettes he’s been snatching up at auction over the last few years. The episode will wrap up at the Bowling Green assembly plant where they’ll follow Hendrick as the he takes delivery of the first two 2014 Corvette Stingrays. We’ll also see him drive the first C7 convertible off the assembly line as well.

“The Corvette is the heartbeat of America. It’s amazing how many people Corvette has touched over the years,” said Hendrick. “I do have a passion for the car; it has driven me to be in the automobile business. I am so thankful to live the dream and to sell the dream. It doesn’t get any better than this.”

You can catch Americarna this Tuesday night, March 18th, at 8pm Eastern on Velocity. Set you DVR’s now for what’s sure to be another great episode.

In the Iron Man movie franchise, Billionaire Tony Stark is known for driving Audi’s.

But in the real world, the actor who plays Tony Stark prefers fiberglass.

At least that was the case on Sunday when Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan were spotted enjoying the nice Southern California weather yesterday with a drive in the Downey’s 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible.

Although the posts I’ve seen on the car describe it as a 1967, we believe this is actually a 1965 Sting Ray based on the 3-vent layout on the fender and the fact that we do not see a “Corvette” emblem on the bottom right of the hood. The third place a spotter would look is the front grill, but it’s took dark to tell if it is a straight finned (a ’65) or egg crate (a ’66) design.

Regardless of the actual year, the Corvette looks to be set up as an original car would have been with those skinny 7.75 x 15″ goldline tires. The Glen Green paint looks sharp and we bet that the small block Chevy under the hood just purrs as well.

[VIDEO] VP Joe Biden Really Really Likes the New Corvette Z06

[VIDEO] VP Joe Biden Really Really Likes the New Corvette Z06

We know that Joe Biden loves his 1967 Corvette. But after seeing the new Corvette Stingray and Z06 at last month’s NAIAS, we’re pretty sure that the country’s vice president has a severe case of Corvette Fever for the new models.

Our Corvette-loving Vice President was captured on video talking to the UAW Legislative Conference on Wednesday. After highlighting several new autos from the different automakers, Biden ask the crowd to indulge him as he makes some comments about the new Corvette Stingray and the upcoming Corvette Z06.

Here is what “Uncle Joe” said:

“I still have my ’67 Corvette. By the way, my grown sons had it rebuilt for me, and it cost seven times the sticker price, rebuilt. But, it’s a quarter horse, man. That’s all it is, is a quarter horse.”

“But that new Stingray, yoooo. Oh, it’s more than a quarter horse, even though it goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds — not that I like speed. It also can track on a curve. It has a 106.7 inch wheelbase. It has more weight in the back, for the first time ever. And I could hardly wait, if I were just not in this job, to take on my friend’s Porsche.”

“I’m serious. It’s the best buy in America!”

“You know, Motor Trend says it snaps back the center and let’s you hold the car through any corner. I can hardly wait!”

“You know, by the way you guys, everyone wants to know whether I am going to run for president. There’s a lot of reasons to run for president, but there’s one overwhelming reason not to run for president. I’d like to get that Z06 (pronounced zee-zero-six) with 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. 3-4 seconds! You tack that sucker up to six grand and this comes out of the hole like a bullet, man.”

“I was talking to the chairman of General Motors and I said, ‘God, I’d love to drive this sucker.’ And I said ‘the only place they let me to drive is on the test track at the secret service’. And he said ‘maybe we can arrange to have one there.’ I may ask.”

Here is the video of Vice President Joe Biden making these comments to the UAW:

Joe saw the 2015 Corvette Z06 for the first time when he made a visit to the 2014 North American International Auto Show with GM CEO Mary Barra in Detroit last month. Here’s some of the photos from that visit:

[PIC] Financial Guru Dave Ramsey Picks Up His C7 Corvette Stingray at the Corvette Museum

Congratulations to best selling author, financial expert, and nationally syndicated talk show host Dave Ramsey. He and his wife Sharon took delivery of their new 2014 Corvette Stingray Tuesday through the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.

Dave’s a pretty smart guy and his research probably led him to believe the Corvette Stingray to be a great value. Plus, the R8C Museum Delivery is way more fun than taking delivery at your local Chevy store.

Click here to see a larger photo of Dave and Sharon Ramsey picking up their C7 Corvette at the NCM.

From what we can see, Ramsey ordered a Z51 Coupe with black alloy wheels, side mirrors and rear spoiler. It also appears that Dave got the exposed Carbon Fiber roof as well.

So congratulations and if this is your first Corvette, welcome to the club. If this is your second or third Corvette, you’re smarter than I thought!

Let’s put politics aside for a moment as we show these pictures of Vice President Joe Biden checking out the new 2015 Corvette Z06 at the Chevrolet display at the North American International Auto Show.

Biden is a long-time Corvette owner with a 1967 Corvette Big Block Roadster back home in his Delaware garage. So we’re pretty sure the excitement and smiles we are seeing on his face as he sits in the new Corvette Z06 and Stingray are genuine.

Showing VP Biden around was General Motors CEO Mary Barra.

Joe once lamented that being VP meant that the he really can’t enjoy driving his ’67 Corvette. Something about Secret Service saying no or something to that effect.

Here’s a related story from The Wall Street Journal:

The vice president has a 1967 Corvette Stingray that his father bought him as a wedding gift. He lamented that the Secret Service doesn’t allow him to drive it anymore due to security reasons, but that hasn’t stopped him getting behind the wheel in his driveway at his home in Delaware.

He said he told his Secret Service agent last year “either get in the passenger seat with me or shoot me, because I’m moving.” Mr. Biden said he did a 60-foot burnout—in his driveway, not on a public road.

He added: “I just want you to know that that ’67 was zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds. I didn’t do that…but it was. But this new Corvette, Z06, is zero to 60, allegedly, in 3.4 seconds.”

And just for some fun, remember when The Onion did this parody of Biden washing a Trans Am in the White House driveway?

Pro Golfer Bubba Watson Gifted a New Corvette Stingray for Christmas

Professional golfer Bubba Watson has joined the ranks of Corvette owners after his wife gave him an Arctic White Corvette Stingray for Christmas. We’re shouting out some kudos to Mrs. Watson for picking out a great C7 Stingray Z51 Coupe for her husband. I have forwarded the story to my wife and suggest you guys do the same with your spouses.

Watson’s new Corvette Stingray is the perfect Corvette Stingray in our eyes. A Z51 Coupe in Arctic White with an Adrenaline Red interior, the Corvette features black 19/20 inch alloy wheels, red calipers, black mirrors and the black Z51 spoiler. The Corvette looks great with its removable top off as well.

According to CarBuzz.com, the car was sent out for window tinting which is a must in Florida, Bubba’s home state.

Bubba Watson is currently ranked 49th on the PGA tour. He won the Masters Tournament in 2012.

Congrats again to the Watsons and welcome to the wonderful world of Corvette ownership.
