This year’s onsite displays will include the all-new Z06 coupe and convertible—these are pre-production models and will not available for sale until early next year. This is your chance to see them up close and personal. The Z06s are a perfect complement to the array of C7 Stingrays, Chips Choice, the Corvette Challenge showcase, the 1964 Corvette reunion, including the mid-engine CERV II, and the dedicated racecar showcase. The Corvette Challenge exhibit honors the 25th anniversary of the popular racing series, while Chips Choice is an annual display highlighting Corvettes that brought people closer together. The race car exhibit hosts a full array of Corvette racing history, including Jim Jefford’s famous Purple People Eater, the Le Mans class-winning #3 Cunningham Corvette, the Daytona and Sebring class-winning 1966 Penske Corvette, a 1968 factory L88 Sunray DX, and many more. In addition to the cars, some of the drivers, crewmembers and team owners will be on hand.

Special events for 2014 include a Racer’s Retreat Dinner and Gathering planned for Friday night August 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Lance Miller and the owners of the racecars on display and a Thursday event kickoff known as Chip Fest. Seminars will be held throughout the weekend featuring a variety of Corvette experts, including GM certified technician Paul Koerner of Corvette Repair, Inc. showcasing his talents. A nominal fee applies to Mr. Koerner’s sessions, but the money goes directly to the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.

If that’s not enough to keep you busy, don’t forget the always-popular Carlisle Corvette parade and street party in which 400 cars from the fairgrounds cruise into downtown Carlisle on Saturday night for a few hours of music, dining, shopping and camaraderie. Should you feel compelled to dance in the streets, music will be provided by the M80s band.

The Saturday night parade and the Sunday awards showcase provide the perfect cap to a spectacular and unforgettable Corvette weekend.

We know it’s hard to believe, but this year Corvettes at Carlisle will celebrate its 32nd year of putting on one of the nation’s biggest and best Corvette shows. Led by the spirit of Chip Miller, the Carlisle staff outdoes itself every year and this year is no exception.

In addition to celebrating the long and storied history of the Corvette as a street car, this year’s show during August 22-24 at the Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA will celebrate the power and success of Corvette on the race track with two racecar exhibits—one featuring the cars of the Corvette Challenge series and the other highlighting Corvette racing in general.

Corvette Challenge

In the mid ‘80s, the fourth generation Corvette was so successful at winning in the Showroom Stock GT class—taking 19 wins in 19 races—that the Sports Car Club of America banned them from participating following the 1987 season. General Motors and Canadian race promoter John Powell then created the Corvette Challenge in 1988, a race series that allowed only Corvettes. All of the Corvettes were prepared under GM’s supervision to be as equal as possible and the drivers were turned loose in sprint races. The series proved wildly successful and was brought back in 1989.

Corvettes at Carlisle is proud to host the 25-year reunion for the Corvette Challenge cars and encourages car owners of these special rides to get involved today! Each owner who is part of the display earns a nice memento of the event, plus they will snag a prime parking spot on the Fun Field. Guests who want to enjoy the Challenge display can get up close and see in person the cars that dominated the track in a truly unique professional racing series.

Racing Corvettes

Given the significance of Corvette’s racing history, the Racing Corvettes display should not be missed. The vast array of cars will include the Briggs Cunningham Corvette #3 that won its class at Le Mans in 1960; Jim Jefford’s #1 Corvette, the famed Purple People Eater; and the #3 Corvette C5.R co-driven by Dale Earnhardt in the 2001 Rolex 24. In addition to the cars, many famed drivers, pit-crew members and race team owners will be in attendance throughout the weekend.

Entries to both displays are by invitation only. In addition, Corvettes at Carlisle enthusiasts are invited to a special Racer’s Retreat Dinner and Gathering planned for Friday night August 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Lance Miller and the owners of the racecars on display. Enjoy time with others who share your passion for racing, plus meet special guests and share in great conversation while you dine, surrounded by Corvettes. It’s all made possible by Corvette Repair, Inc. The deadline for dinner registration is Friday, August 8 at 11:59 p.m.

Complete event details, including a link to register, are available online at www.CarlisleEvents.com. Also online are registration details for Corvettes at Carlisle itself. The cars and excitement come to Carlisle annually — all that’s missing is you!

Corvette America Named As Presenting Partner for the 2014 Corvettes at Carlisle

Our friends over at Corvette America just announced they have taken a big step forward by moving from Fun Field Sponsor to Presenting Sponsor for the upcoming Corvettes at Carlisle.

Since 2009, Corvette America had been the Official Fun Field Sponsor at Carlisle but now will expand its presence by becoming the Official Presenting Partner for the 2014 event, which will be known as Corvettes at Carlisle Presented By Corvette America. The event will be held Aug. 22-24.

“Partnering with Carlisle Events has been one of the best decisions Corvette America has made during the past five years,” Dave Hall, president of Corvette America, said. “We firmly believe that having an even greater presence onsite during Corvettes at Carlisle weekend will only serve to enhance what is already a very strong relationship.”

Founded in 1977, Corvette America is based in Reedsville, Pennsylvania and is the No. 1 manufacturer and supplier of Corvette interiors, wheels and parts. Corvette America products are available through all the major Corvette aftermarket suppliers as well as thousands of dealers throughout the United States, Canada and around the world.

Their 200,000-square-foot headquarters is home to corporate offices, sales and a huge inventory that allows them to service every customer’s needs plus their separate 55,000-square-foot manufacturing facility produces the most extensive array of high quality Corvette interior products in the industry.

Carlisle Events co-owner and Corvettes at Carlisle Event Manager Lance Miller says the bond between the two organizations was instantaneous.

“Since the first day we met with the Corvette America team we felt an instant synergy,” Miller said. “Since day one we discussed how our company and theirs could work together to achieve our goals. I can undoubtedly say that both teams have gone above and beyond. We’re thrilled to work with such a great company and team. Most of all we’re thankful for the friendship that’s evolved and happy to have them as a significant part of this event for the sixth consecutive year.”

Corvettes at Carlisle began in 1982 and has grown to become a major international happening for Corvette enthusiasts. More than 50,000 enthusiasts and 5,000 Corvettes attend the event each year in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which also includes industry guests, special displays, a downtown Carlisle Corvette parade, and a Manufacturers Midway that hosts a popular mix of vendors catering to the Corvette enthusiast.

As a sponsor of this website, Corvette America is appreciated for its dedication and service to the Corvette hobby, and we encourage enthusiasts who have never been to Carlisle to head that way in 2014.

The Corvette Vanity Plates of Corvettes at Carlisle 2013

The Corvette Vanity Plates of Corvettes at Carlisle 2013

One of the topics I love covering at the big Corvette shows are the vanity plates that owners put on their Corvettes. Corvettes at Carlisle is no exception as the thousands of Corvettes parked in the fun field and surrounding lots make for a target rich environment when it comes to seeing the fun and witty comments that owners put on their cars.

As we’ve mentioned before about vanity plates, there appears to be two camps when it comes to putting the perfect 7-character (or less) saying on the license plate. You will have owners describe their Corvette (Stevz C6, 1 QYK Z, MY HOTC6) or they tend to describe their state of minds (KIDZRGON, JUS CHLN, CRAZY4U).

Most of the plates we saw hailed from around Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Virginia and Ohio. We did see a couple from farther destinations including Maine, Florida and of course Michigan.

From walking the rows of cars at Corvettes at Carlisle we could have had three times the amount of photos, but these were some of our favorites. If you see your Corvette’s vanity plate, let us know!

2014 Corvette Stingray Retail Production is Underway

2014 Corvette Stingray Retail Production is Underway

Over the weekend at Corvettes at Carlisle, select GM engineers in attendance gave a series of quickie seminars (5-10 minutes and then Q&A) at the top of each hour. On Saturday morning, Steve Grilli, Bowling Green Assembly’s Quality Manager spoke and confirmed that retail production for the 2014 Corvette Stingray is underway as well as some other interesting tidbits of Stingray news.

We missed the seminar so we are relying on a Corvette Forum thread started by forum member MDK9950 who appears to have taken some decent notes.

The biggest news is that 2014 Corvette Stingray retail production has officially began. Members on the forums who have submitted orders have started receiving their VINs and customers are reporting that their order has moved to Status Code “3800″ which means that their Corvette has been produced.

But just because the Corvettes have been produced doesn’t mean they are shipping right out. Remember that John Fitzpatrick told us that the new Corvette Stingrays will undergo a quality assessment process so it may still be another month before these cars are actually shipped from Bowling Green. Look for status code “4200″ which will indicate to the customer that the vehicle has shipped.

Grilli said the plant is currently producing about 20 cars per day, but will be ramping it up to about 18.5 Corvettes per hour which equals 135 Corvettes per day and 30,000 cars per year. That’s about the same volume of Corvettes that we saw produced annually in 2005-2008 prior to the Carpocalype and GM’s bankruptcy. If memory serves me correct, the final C6s were built at a rate of around 8.5 per hour.

In other production news, Grilli announced that the C7 Test Fleet which comprises just over 200 Corvette Stingrays have completed 1,000,000 miles of real world testing last week. GM subcontracts the testing of Corvettes to a third party.

Finally, Grilli gave a couple of updates on the two known Corvette Stingray crashes which include the Laguna Blue Corvette in Arizona and the Cyber Gray Stingray t-boned by the Lincoln Towncar in Detroit. The Laguna Blue Corvette had its body panels and frame repaired and it was put back into service. The Cyber Gray C7 is waiting for body parts (fender, door, quarter panel) and will go back into service once the repairs are complete. As a testament to driver safety, both C7 Corvette drivers walked away from their accidents with no injuries.

One of the highlights of Corvettes at Carlisle is the Saturday evening parade where hundreds of Corvettes make their way from the fairgrounds to downtown Carlisle. Leading the parade was Bill Miller in a classic C1 Convertible while Lance Miller was driving his 2012 Carlisle Blue Corvette ZR1.

Behind them was the GM / Corvette Team reps all driving the new 2014 Corvette Stingrays.

When the Corvettes get to downtown, they are parked in the middle of the street and the crowds come off the sidewalks to check out all the cool cars.

Check out the fun and excitement when the Corvette parade hits downtown Carlisle, PA:
