January 2014 Corvette Sales

January 2014 Corvette Sales

General Motors released their monthly figures this morning for January’s new car deliveries which showed 2,261 Corvettes were sold. In direct comparison, only 908 new Corvettes were sold in January 2013. The January 2014 figure is the lowest number of Corvettes delivered since last September when the new C7 Corvettes started shipping and the dip in sales is most likely a combination of the plant being closed for the holidays as well as the winter weather that covered much of the United States last month.

Despite the weather, Corvette’s January was red hot. First the car was named the 2014 North American Car of the Year and then the new 2015 Corvette Z06 was shown to the public for the first time during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The C7.R was also displayed for the first time in full livery at NAIAS and then it made its racing debut at the Rolex 24 Hours of Detroit where it finished fifth in class.

Recap of 2013′s Monthly Corvette Sales

Recap of 2013 Monthly Corvette Sales

One of the content features on CorvetteBlogger throughout our eight plus years of blogging about America’s favorite sports car has been tracking the monthly sales of new Corvettes. But last year we sort of got away from that when the assembly plant shut down as it prepared to build the new 2014 Corvette Stingray.

So here is a recap of the monthly sales of Corvettes in 2013 and then each month moving forward we’ll be back to our regular schedule of bringing you the previous month’s official sales numbers from Chevrolet, along with our award-winning and slightly-biased analysis.

Despite the plant shutting down 2013 production in February, sales remained relatively steady through May before falling off in the summer months. The summer of 2013 account for some of the lowest consecutive monthly sales figures since we’ve been following Corvette sales but that is a given considering the sales were from remaining 2013 inventories while all the hype surrounding Corvettes was for the new Stingray.

Production of the 2014 Corvette Stingray kicked off in late August but you’ll remember how the shipping lot was allowed to fill up behind the plant as Chevrolet conducted an intense round of quality assessments. Those quality checks lasted nearly the month of September before the cars where allowed to be shipped to dealers and delivered to customers.

Deliveries of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray in the 4th quarter illustrate the demand for the 7th generation sports car as sales for the final three months totaled 9,461 units, compared with only 7,830 sold from January-September.

Below are the sales figures for each month in 2013, along with the corresponding sales number from the previous year as well.

[PIC] First Shipment of R8C Delivery Corvette Stingrays Arrive at the National Corvette Museum

For those of you who have opted to take delivery of your new 2014 Corvette Stingray at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, the good news tweeted today announced the arrival of a truckload of R8C Delivery Stingrays from the plant across the street. The cars will be prepped and the first of many Museum Deliveries start on September 30th.

Here’s a tweet today from the Corvette Museum announcing the arrival:

For those of you who maybe are new to Corvettes, The R8C Delivery Program allows you take delivery of your new Corvette at the National Corvette Museum. Perks include a buyers tour of the plant (when available), tour of the NCM and a 1 year membership. Your car is prepped and then displayed inside the museum where it can be seen on the webcams.

Picking up your Corvette is special occasion. A gold R8C label is placed inside the door jam, you get a clap out from the employees and a nice photo in front of the facility.

A new option this year is the personalized Corvette Museum Delivery plaque with your name and VIN. The plaque is inside the Corvette under the center IP climate controls.

The cost of the R8C Museum Delivery is $995 and according to the NCM, they are scheduling deliveries as fast as they can get the cars. If you want a really neat experience when you take delivery of your new 2014 Corvette Stingray, talk to your dealer sales rep about the program.

Check out these additional photos of the first Corvette Stingrays arriving at the NCM.
