Arsonist Torches a C5 Corvette in Tennessee

Arsonist Torches a C5 Corvette in Tennessee

A Newport, Tennessee family has lost its peace of mind after a suspected arsonist destroyed three of their vehicle in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 17.

John Scott Jones of 641 Pikeview Street told police that his wife, Leslie Jones, woke him up at 3:43 a.m. after she heard a noise outside and told him that the side of their house seemed to be “really hot”, according to Patrolman Derrick Wright.

Mr. Jones looked outside to see three of the family’s four vehicles on fire.

Fortunately, the three members of the family inside the house were able to escape without injury.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for their vehicles, including a silver 1998 Corvette convertible valued at $21,000, as well as a 2002 GMC Sierra worth $8,500 and a 2011 Hyundai Elantra valued at $24,000 – all of which suffered extensive damage. The siding on the end of the house next to the fire also melted away, although the rest of the structure appeared to escape without damage.

Police believe the arsonist may be a person the Joneses have “had problems with in the past,” according to the report.

“Nothing like this has ever happened in this neighborhood… I’m afraid they’ll come over here,” a neighbor told a WVLT news reporter.

[VIDEO] Regular Car Reviews Test the C6 Corvette

[VIDEO] Regular Car Reviews Tests the C6 Corvette

Our friends over at Jalopnik turned us on to this video from Regular Car Reviews who recently reviewed a 2008 C8 Corvette Coupe. This isn’t the the kind of review your used to reading though and that’s why it’s so good.

The review is a straight voiceover while the Atomic Orange C6 is shown driving around some wet, soggy streets. There’s some complaining about the CAGS forcing shifts from 1st gear to 4th gear but we all hate that, right? The reviewer seems to have some special insight into Corvette owners because he says once you’ve defeated the CAGS by snipping wires and pulling fuses, the personalization fever takes hold and now causes you to want to make your vette your own.

Our favorite line from the review is also the same line that Jalopnik used for their headline: “There is no casually liking Corvettes. The C6 is a car around which to revolve your life.”

How true is that!

But perhaps the best part comes when he starts talking about the lifestyle. “Once your into Vettes, you’re into them…” and then there’s a great line about saving your shopping spree money for parts at Corvettes at Carlisle too. In fact, there’s a couple of references to Corvettes at Carlisle including a fantastic Callaway comment as well.

Check out the Regular Car Review of the 2008 Corvette C6:

If you enjoyed this, there is also Regular Car Review of a 1979 C3 Corvette that’s just as good.

[VIDEO] Tommy Milner Shows Off His No.4 Corvette C7.R

[VIDEO] Tommy Milner Shows Off His No.4 Corvette C7.R

This week on Mobil 1′s The Grid is a video of Tommy Milner showing off his new office, the all new C7.R that made its debut earlier this year at the Rolex Daytona 24 hour. In this video, Tommy gives us a rundown of the changes from C6.R to C7.R and then he takes us into the cockpit for a tour and closer look at the racing technology that is literally at his fingertips.

Tommy says that this new C7.R has been designed with the driver’s comfort in mind. A new tilt steering wheel helps during driver changes and the steering wheel controls have been refined so that the most important functions are on the wheel while other controls have been integrated into the dash and other control surfaces.

One of the coolest pieces of racing technology in the C7.R is the radar system that Corvette Racing co developed with BOSCH. The system helps the drivers identify the traffic behind them and determine the class and speed of the approaching car. Tommy says “it’s been a huge help for us as drivers to really manage traffic better than we could have in years passed. It gives you shapes and colors and things like that to determine whether cars are going away from you or getting closer, So that’s been a really huge help for us.”

Check out Mobil 1′s The Grid feature on Tommy Milner:

[VIDEO] “Ungrateful” Pattie Gets Her Corvette Stingray Blown for Her Birthday

[VIDEO] Ungrateful Pattie Gets Her Corvette Stingray Blown for her Birthday

Maybe we were a little too harsh on Pattie.

Remember her?

She’s the girlfriend who appeared to be ungrateful when her beau surprised her with the ultimate gift (at least if you’re a Corvette enthusiast): a 2014 C7 Z51 Stingray, black on black.

Well, Pattie recently celebrated her birthday, and her man Chris didn’t have to think too hard to come up with a way to top his earlier present: the full treatment on her Stingray’s powertrain that increased the horsepower to nearly 800!

After the couple traveled from Texas to Georgia to see what Ron Mowen and the folks at Vengeance Racing had done to her Stingray, there were smiles galore from Pattie this time.

“Wow!” she exclaims when she pushes the start button and the monster supercharged motor rumbles to life with a definite vengeance.

“That’s a heck of a birthday present, huh?” Chris asks.

“I’ll take it,” Pattie grins.

“You got cam, headers, tires, wheels, shifter, meth injection, and blower,” Chris explains. “Cause everybody likes to get blown for their birthday, huh?”

Pattie – this time with her seatbelt on after being criticized for not wearing it on the last video – takes her Corvette for a test drive and comes back impressed with her newfound power.
“What’d you think?” Chris asks.

“My God!” she says with a huge smile and a slightly evil chuckle.

“A lot of power?” Chris asks.

“Oh, yeah!”

“Shifts pretty good?”

“It does, a lot better than it did before.”

“Well, I can’t give you an awkward hug because we’ll get criticized,” Chris tells her.

“No awkward hugs…a high five,” Pattie says, reaching out with her hand. “There you go!”

We’re glad to see that Pattie isn’t really bored with her C7. In fact, the video shows her office, completed with Stingray model, photo, and poster. Welcome to the fold, Pattie! Even her license tag says it all now: BLONC7.

[VIDEO] CorvetteBlogger Talks with Criswell Corvette’s Mike Furman at the NCM Bash

[VIDEO] CorvetteBlogger Talks with Criswell Corvette's Mike Furman at the NCM Bash

During the National Corvette Museum’s Bash last month, we had the opportunity to speak to Mike Furman of Criswell Corvette. Mike has sold an astounding 3,100 Corvettes over his professional sales career and we liken him to be a modern day Bob Wingate. Mike is one of the star sales reps on the Corvette Forum and proves time and again that he will go the extra mile to ensure that your Corvette buying experience is as positive as it can be.

So what’s happening with Mike at Criswell? Delivering Corvettes naturally.

Between sessions at the Bash, we asked him about the trends he is seeing from buyers, as well as the excitement people have after seeing the new 2015 Corvette Z06. Mike was also happy to show off a bit of the new C7 Callaway Corvette as he is one of around two dozen Chevy dealers who works with Callaway Engineering. Finally, we all know about the brutal winter many folks endured, so we asked if he’s had a chance to get out and drive his own Corvette lately.

Here’s the interview with Mike Furman from the NCM Bash:

If you’re interested in putting Mike Furman to work on your next Corvette purchase, you can reach him by calling 301-212-4420 or via email through his website at http://criswellcorvette.com/mike_furman.aspx. In addition to setting up a local delivery at Criswell Corvette’s Gaithersburg, Maryland dealership, Mike can offer delivery though the Corvette Museum’s R8C program or he can arrange a courtesy delivery to the Chevrolet dealer in your home town.

[VIDEO] How to Fix a Creaky Removable Top on a C6 Corvette Coupe

[VIDEO] How to Fix a Creaky Removable Top on a C6 Corvette Coupe

One of the common nuisances to C6 coupe owners is the creaking of the removable roof panel. If you own a C6 coupe you know we’re talking about. If not, just think of a never ending series of popping and/or creaking sounds coming from each of the attachment points on your targa top while you drive. The topic was discussed ad nauseum throughout C6 production and even spawned a GM Technical Service Bulletin to address the issue.

Last month at the NCM Bash we caught up with the two best people to help resolve this issue.

If you’ve attended the Bash, Corvettes at Carlisle, or Mid America Funfest in the last few years you’ve probably been to or at least heard of the seminars presented by The Corvette Mechanic’s Paul Koerner and Brittany George. During their talks they cover many of the more common issues seen on later model Corvettes and discuss how to fix or prevent them. In addition they often host diagnostic clinics where owners can drive their own cars up and get expert diagnosis and advice on the spot.

Last month at the NCM Bash they held walk-up assistance sessions for most of the day, each of the three show days. Late in the day on Saturday, we were able to get them to show us the proper way to help stop and prevent that dreaded creaking or popping from your C6 coupe’s removable top.

In the video below Paul and Brittany walk us through most all of the steps in this relatively easy process. We’ll let Paul and Brittany take you through the steps in the video below, but here’s the short version:

  1. Remove the roof panel from the car
  2. Clean all of the weather stripping on the car and top with a foaming cleaner and microfiber towel
  3. Torque all of the locating pins to 16 ft-lbs
  4. Clean and lubricate the locating pins with dielectric grease
  5. Remove your front latch handles and also lubricate the T40 shoulder bolt with dielectric grease
  6. Reinstall the bolt and handle. Torque to 13 ft-lbs
  7. Lubricate the weather strips, allow to sit for 1 hour and then wipe off the excess
  8. Reinstall your top and enjoy the quiet time behind the wheel of your C6!

Here is the video showing the steps Paul and Brittney took to fix the creaking removable top on a 2009 Corvette:

We can tell you that the owner of the C6 in the video had a 500 mile, creak-free trip home from the Bash after Paul and Brittany worked their magic on the car.

If you’ll be attending any of the big Corvette shows in the future be sure to check Paul and Brittany’s seminars and also check out TheCorvetteMechanic.com for more tips and tricks for your late model Corvette.
