[VIDEO] Corvette Engine Building Video Shows Owner/Builder Interaction

This Wixom walk-through video was released in late November on Chevrolet’s YouTube channel. Master Engine Builder Don Henley takes us through the various stages and quality checks as a 638-hp LS9 is assembled. For us, the real magic comes when we see the interaction these builders have with Corvette owners. You can see emails and posts from the Corvette Forum hanging on the wall. One of those shows a quote from builder Mike Armstrong that reads “If my name is on it … My heart goes into it.” The forum post to Henley sums it up for us: “tell everyone in Wixom that their work is very much appreciated!

Navigation Information? Beware!

Many Corvette owners have chosen to have Navigation installed in their Corvette by the factory, while some others have chosen to go the cheaper route and use a portable GPS unit.  Either way, if you’re storing information in the navigation (like any of us normally would), beware.

Two metro Detroit robbers were recently nabbed for stealing GPS and garage openers from unlocked vehicles in 17 lower Michigan locations.

Just think… Those two items alone gives strangers FULL access to your house! The GPS is likely programmed with your home directions while your garage door opener will simply open your house!

Now you know. So be one step ahead of those 23-year old robbers. Program your home location as the local McDonald’s – or anywhere that’s miles away from your garage!  Coming from someone who has had their car stolen, I highly recommend this simple change to protect yourself and your family.

[VIDEO] Lingenfelter Corvette ZR1 Runs 9.81 @ 145.74 mph

Lingenfelter had their Corvette ZR1 test mule making quarter mile passes at Maryland International Raceway on December 7th and during one of the runs, the Corvette ran 9.81 @ 145.74 mph. This is believed to be the first Corvette ZR1 to see the 9’s on a quarter mile run. Here is what was modified to make the ZR1 a sub-10 sec car:

“Car is running a stock 3.42 rear diff. Factory halfshafts. 2.66 Z06 gearset that has been micropolished, courtesy of RPM transmissions. Stock ZR1 clutch. Stock suspension.
Our larger supercharger inlet is utilized, and will be available soon. Larger intercooler. Stock engine with stock internals. Lingenfelter upper pulley kit along with lower overdrive damper completes the run down of what we have done with this car.”

Here is another run from that day resulting in a 9.93 @ 144.73 mph.

To give you some frame of reference as to what kind of increase Lingenfelter is getting with their modifications, the fastest bone-stock Corvette ZR1 quarter mile time is 10.851 @ 129.89 MPH.

Corvettes on EBay: Wicked 1963 Corvette Grand Sport Recreation

Wicked 1963 Corvette Grand Sport Recreation

I don’t refer to many Corvettes as “wicked” but I was flipping through eBay’s Corvette listings tonight and this serious-looking 1963 Corvette Grand Sport recreation caught my eye. Painted Silver with a Black stripe, the Grand Sport’s coupe body just rocks. Under the hood rocks too with a Chevrolet 464 crate engine mated to a 6-speed transmission. [More]

The Dodge Challenger, the Chrysler Group’s retro-styled muscle car, is the car best loved by its owners, according to Consumer Reports’ survey of 380,000 readers of its magazine and Web site.

Blackforce One?

LOMA Performance just recently unveiled their newest edition, the Blackforce One Corvette.

Okay, so the name is a bit gimmicky. Yes.

The actual vehicle, however, is a different story. Made out of a C6-based twin-turbocharged engine, this Corvette can reach up to 783 horsepower. With a whopping 666 horsepower coming from the rear wheels, this machine can make it to top speeds of 205 mph, giving it only 3.4 seconds to hit the 100 km mark.

Carbon-ceramic disc brake replacements and upgrades to suspension, exhaust, tires, wheels and other elements make this vehicle hard to come by. In fact, only 25 of these vehicles will ever be produced.

Check out the video after the jump.
