Corvettes on eBay: First 2010 Corvette ZR1 VIN 0001

Here is a Corvette ZR1 for sale on eBay that is worthy of collector car status. This Jetstream Blue Corvette was the first ZR1 produced in the 2010 model year. Wearing VIN #0001, it comes with a 3ZR package and features a Dark Titanium interior and chrome wheels. But here is the kicker: the selling dealer acquired this Corvette directly from General Motors. Although it has just over 3,500 miles, it has never been titled.

We saw how collectors were all over the first 2009 Corvette ZR1s. In fact, there was a unique set of circumstances that saw the actual production of three (3) VIN #0001 ZR1s. Chevy dealer Dave Ressler paid $1 million at Barrett-Jackson to own the special 1 of 1 RPO BD1 VIN #0001 in January 2008. The first regular production Corvette ZR1 is owned by Jay Leno while the third #0001 car was a pre-production VIN that was part of the captured test fleet. We are unaware of the ownership status of that third #0001 Corvette ZR1.

So this is your chance to own the first 2010 Corvette ZR1 and with the Certificate of Origin, you’ll be listed as the first owner on the title. But this opportunity doesn’t come cheap. The current bid is $155,000 but the reserve price of $189,000 has yet to be reached with just 22 hours to go at the time of this posting.

Here are some photos of the first Corvette ZR1 of 2010:

About the only downside we see with this beautiful Jetstream Blue ZR1 is that Hubbard GM Center painted their dealer name on the rear bumper right under the cross flags logo. How tacky! Its removal should be the part of any purchase deal!

C7 Corvette Engine To Be Turbocharged?

In an article today, entitled "Next Corvette to Target Euro-Supercar Fans With Small, High-Revving Turbo V8," the DetroitBureau.com website states the following:

"Anxious to attract the sort of high-performance buyers increasingly drawn to European sports cars from the likes of Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini, General Motors is planning some major changes for the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette – starting with a high-revving, small-displacement powertrain, that will substitute for the big V8s traditionally found under the hood of the Chevy 2-seater.

Citing highly placed GM executives, the Bureau claims:

"GM has approved the use of a very European-style V8 that will be only slightly larger than 3 liters in displacement. The engine will be of an overhead-cam, rather than traditional overhead-valve design, using a dry sump oil system that’s particularly well-suited to high-performance road courses rather than straight-line acceleration. The engine is expected to feature a narrow 80.5 mm bore and a long stroke, more like a Ferrari or Lamborghini powertrain than the approach used for traditional Motor City metal.

The article continues:

A very senior GM executive also confirmed that the new engine will be turbocharged, which will help yield a broad torque curve and maximum performance under a variety of driving conditions. The engine is expected to deliver in excess of 400 horsepower, which means a specific output in the range of 125 horsepower per liter. That’s the sort of number that would help the next-gen Vette stack up well against the likes of a Porsche 911 or Lamborghini Gallardo.

We will continue to monitor the press and the factory on everything revealed (or even speculated) about the C7.  We can’t wait to see it, either.  Stay tuned: it will be exciting!

New Carlisle Blue Corvette Spotted on Car Hauler

New Carlisle Blue Corvette Spotted on Car Hauler

Les Stanford Chevrolet of Dearborn, MI posted these photos Wednesday on the Corvette Forum which show a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport painted in Carlisle Blue. Having seen just the bumper cover at the Bash, I wondered how it would look on a full car. Check out the larger photos after the jump and then let us know what you think of the new blue 2012 Corvette.

Personally, I’m not much of a fan of pastel colors on automobiles and would agree with the forum member who described it as “My Little Pony” Blue. Now that you’ve seen it on a Corvette, what do you think about the new color?
