LeMons Racer is the World’s Only Veggie Oil Powered Corvette

LeMons Racer is the World's Only Veggie Oil Powered Corvette

With news of the 450-hp C7 LT1 engine dominating the Internet this week, we managed to find another Corvette motor worthy of some ink, too.

And you don’t even have to wait until an official unveiling to see this unusual Corvette.

Reports on the Web are discussing what appears to be the world’s only Corvette powered by a diesel engine that runs on vegetable oil.

A fellow named “Spank” out in Escondido, California has actually put a 1980s Oldsmobile 350 diesel V8 that produces a whopping 77-hp into his C4 Corvette, which he says has the ability to run for five hours at unspecified speeds on one tankful.

And, if you’re impressed by all these facts and figures, this car can actually be the Corvette of your dreams for just $3,500!

Of course, there are some potential drawbacks. Spank didn’t install two fuel tanks – one for conventional diesel and another for the vegetable oil. Instead, he drains the vegetable oil from the tank, replaces it with diesel fuel to warm the engine up, and then drains it again and puts more vegetable oil in. He makes it sound as normal as just hopping in the seat of your car and turning the ignition switch, but we’re not sure we’d want to go to that much trouble for just 77-hp!

Spank calls his creation the “Cor-Vegge” and says it was built for the 24 Hours of LeMons endurance racing series for cars that cost $500 or less (not to be confused with the 24 Hours of LeMans).

North Carolina Man Wins the Race to Win Corvette Contest

North Carolina Man Wins the Race to Win Corvette Contest

Charles Johnson was like so many of us. We enter a contest and never give it another thought, figuring we won’t be lucky enough to ever win.

Wrong!

At least for this Raleigh, North Carolina man, who beat the odds and actually won a 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible.

He had seen an ad earlier in the year about a General Motors- and Corvette Racing-sponsored giveaway for the ultimate Corvette convertible and filled out the entry form.

He didn’t figure he had much chance of winning, but six months later, the phone rang at his home, his son picked it up, and soon came the news that Charles had been picked as the winner not only of the LS7-powered 505-hp 427 Corvette, but also a four night-five day trip to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Charles, who once owned a 1998 Corvette, has big plans for his prize. He wants to take the car to Virginia International Raceway, to the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and to the Tail of the Dragon, a track in Robbinsville, North Carolina.

After putting 131 miles on the odometer the first day, Charles says he plans to slow down a little and keep the mileage to about 4,000 miles a year.

Ironically, he will turn 49 on Halloween and will definitely be celebrating in style in his new Corvette.

Final Call for 2013 Corvette Orders

60th Anniversary 427 Corvette Convertible 2013
60th Anniversary 427 Corvette Convertible 2013

We have been warning about this for some time now: tomorrow, October 26 is the final day for Chevrolet dealers to present unallocated sold orders for 2013 Corvettes to General Motors, and be guaranteed that those cars will be built!

Larger Corvette dealers, like ourselves, will still have some allocation over the next two weeks, but then ordering will be closed.

If you, as a reader of CorvetteBlog.com, have been planning to order a 2013 Corvette, you should take action now!

All colors are still available with these exceptions: GLB Supersonic Blue Metallic and 28U Inferno Orange Metallic.

As far as the restrictions on 427 Convertibles that we have had almost all year, the factory is suggesting that your order of this model will likely be accepted and built.  They seem to be leaving a little wiggle room in case they get slammed.

So, this is the final call to action.  Order your 2013 Corvette now!  The dealership that sponsors this blog is dedicated to making the cost of ownership as reasonable as possible.  Call us today at 313-531-7100, mention that you read this post, and ask for a great price on a Corvette you plan to order today.

Pheasant Run to host Mecum car auction

ST. CHARLES – Whether buyers aim to spend $10,000 to $15,000 on a car to enjoy on cruise nights or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a higher investment, Sam Murtaugh said the Mecum 2012 Fall Premier Auction in St.

All-new 6.2-litre V8 for 2014 ‘Vette

American engine design has always been conservative, relying on huge cast-iron V8 lumps with big, lazy pistons and pushrod-operated valves to get the job done – and that worked fine in an era of cheap fuel.
