2011 Corvette Grand Sport Stolen From Canadian GMC Dealership

2011 Corvette Grand Sport Stolen From Canadian GMC Dealership

For some, the lure of owning a Corvette is sometimes taken to extremes.

Take this 2011 Corvette Grand Sport for example.

The car must have made one heck of an impression on someone as it was stolen from a Canadian car dealer last week by being driven through a glass window.

Penticton’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force (RCMP) responded to a report of broken glass and a Corvette that sped away from Huber GMC in Penticton, British Columbia.

Police observed the Silver Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed and the car was clocked by radar doing 220 km/h (137 mph). Officers decided not to initiate pursuit and put out calls to the neighboring RCMP post in Summerland. Roadblocks were set up to capture the thief but he must have turned off the highway before reaching those checkpoints.

The Corvette is described as being a 2011 Special Heritage Edition Grand Sport Corvette which probably means the Corvette Coupe was outfitted with the GS Heritage Package.

If you have any details regarding the Corvette Grand Sport, call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

National Corvette Museum Receives Donation of 10 Corvettes from Don Messner

National Corvette Museum Receives Donation of 10 Corvettes from Don Messner

The National Corvette Museum has received its largest donation ever – a collection of 10 Corvettes in the Don Messner Collection.

Messner, who passed away in May from melanoma, wanted to inspire others to make similar donations in the future.

“He said he wanted to plant a seed,” Messner’s wife, Marlene, pointed out. “He wanted others in similar situations with rare Corvettes to see the Museum as a place for them. Most of all, he wanted to inspire future generations to work hard to buy their own Corvettes someday so that they, too, could enjoy the lifestyle that goes with owning them.”

Messner’s collection will be shown in a special display in the Museum Exhibit Hall from May 10-Sept. 12, 2014.

Messner, who lived in Montoursville, Pa., had a real zest for life, enjoying exciting things like scuba diving, horses, racing, power boating, radio control airplanes, fishing, hunting, and of course, Corvettes.

Through the years, he searched for low-mileage, rare Corvettes that were in excellent condition and even had a climate-controlled garage he kept them in, which he dubbed The Toy Box.

Among the Corvettes he donated to the Museum are:

  • 1965 grey coupe, custom race built Corvette
  • 1967 427 convertible Corvette
  • 1969 convertible/hard top Corvette
  • 1989 coupe Corvette
  • 1990 ZR-1 Corvette
  • 1996 Collector’s Edition Corvette
  • 1996 Grand Sport Corvette
  • 2000 convertible Corvette
  • 2008 Z06 Corvette
  • 2013 60th Anniversary Corvette with R8C Museum Delivery

Even after he was diagnosed with incurable melanoma in January 2012, he kept on going. He was able to attend the exclusive unveiling of the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the Chevrolet Media Event in Detroit and later enjoyed Museum delivery of his 2013 Corvette and a tour of the Assembly Plant. It was then that he decided the Museum was the best place for his Corvettes.

“When people see these cars,” Marlene says, “I want them to remember Don Messner and his legacy. He was an amazing and very generous man.”

[VIDEO] Man Surprises Parents With a 2008 Corvette

For months, Josh Spencer had picked his dad’s brain about what kind of dream Corvette he would like to have when he finally bought one.

Little did Dad know that Josh was just trying to make sure he bought the absolute perfect Corvette for his father.

“For years I wanted to do something, but unfortunately wasn’t able to afford it,” Josh blogged. “However, over the past 5 years my Beachbody Coach business has increased so much that not only has it given my family and I complete financial freedom, but it has allowed me to do some things for the people I care about most, my friends and family.”

Take a look at this video as Josh surprises his mom and dad with their “perfect” C6 Corvette, black on black, as they think he is just bringing them along to pick up his own 2014 Stingray he’s been talking about for months.

His dad is completely shocked after Josh walks over to the 2008 Corvette, giftwrapped with a red bow, and hands him a card that had been on the windshield. Once she realizes what is happening, his mom bursts into tears as his dad continues to ask if the car is really theirs.

“My parents mean the world to me,” Josh writes. “They have done so much for me over the years and are a major reason why I am where I am today with my family life, business, and health. They have brought me up to care about others, put family first, give back, live with integrity, but yet be strong, independent, and to always push hard for my goals and dreams.”

Josh and his parents had cruised around town with each other for years – Josh and his family in his 2011 BMW Z4 and his parents in their BMW 1M.

“Back in July I decided that I was going to get rid of the Z4 and purchase a 2014 Corvette Stingray and thought to myself how cool it would be if they had a Corvette as well so that we can put our cars in car shows and even join a Corvette Club together. That’s when I started picking dad’s brain to see exactly what kind of car he wanted.”

If you want to experience one of the greatest feelings that you can ever feel in your life, Josh says, do something for something without expecting anything in return. Truly incredible.

“Purchasing a Corvette C6 for my parents was truly an awesome experience and moment,” he says, “and I know that we will all enjoy our cars together as much as we possibly can. It’s just one more thing that brings our family closer together.”

Corvettes Conquer Cancer Tour Coming to Huntsville, AL on October 26th

Corvettes Conquer Cancer Tour Coming to Huntsville, AL on October 26th

Corvette owners love their cars.

But family comes first. Witness the inspirational story of Ben and Sandy Labaree of Alabama.

Thirteen years after Sandy passed away from cancer, Ben continues the legacy that the couple started in the late ’90s.

Ben and Sandy always enjoyed driving their 1963 Corvette convertible. When Sandy found out her breast cancer had spread in 1997, she didn’t just sit down. Instead, she and Ben went out and bought a more reliable 1997 Corvette to support their idea of Corvettes Conquer Cancer to raise money for the American Cancer Society (where she had been a longtime volunteer) and increase awareness.

Ben and Sandy with their 1963 Corvette convertible

The first year, they covered 35,000 miles and 32 states at Corvette shows across the nation in their Corvette.

Sandy eventually lost her battle to cancer in March of 2000, but Ben kept Corvettes Conquer Cancer going. In fact, he retired the ’97 in 2006 after racking up 195,000 miles in his travels to help the ACS, and the ’06 replacement already has 190,000 miles on the odometer.

“The support from the Corvette community and many others has been phenomenal over the years,” Ben says.

You may have run across the two Corvettes at shows across the country. If not, your next chance to see the ’06 is in Huntsville, Ala., where Ben is a member of the Vets with Vettes and Corvette Owners club. They’ll be hosting the 2013 Corvettes Conquer Cancer Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at Landers McLarty Chevrolet on University Drive in Huntsville.

The $25 tax-deductible registration fee goes to the Cancer Society.

Corvettes Conquer Cancer Tour Coming to Huntsville, AL on October 26th

In fact, “all the money we raise at this event goes solely to the American Cancer Society,” said Ken Ille, show co-chairman.

Attendees can vote for their favorite entries through monetary donations. Corvettes that collect the most donations win Participants’ Choice. Trophies will be awarded to one Corvette in each generation, and an overall trophy will go to the Corvette club with the most participation.

A goody bag is available for the first 100 entries. Door prizes, raffles, a silent auction, and a 50/50 drawing (the winner splits the proceeds with the ACS) will raise additional money, all going to the American Cancer Society.

The event raised $5,004 last year with 67 cars. “This year, we’re hoping to be bigger,” Ille says.

In case you can’t get to the National Corvette Museum before the holidays, representatives will be at the show to set up a tent with Corvette accessories for sale.

“Corvette owners don’t have to travel to the museum in Bowling Green,” said Ille. “They can come out here and do Christmas shopping early.”

A new 2014 Stingray will also be on hand for everyone to check out.

By the way, you can recognize Ben’s 2006 Corvette immediately since it’ll be surrounded by information from the American Cancer Society. It’s also covered with signatures from Corvette engineers and other supporters. In fact, for a $25 donation to the ACS, you could join the 120 others who have autographed the car.

You can also spot Ben’s car by the license plate, which reads DIDNTW8, a nod to Sandy’s legacy of cancer awareness and support.

“She was always positive, and an inspiration to everybody,” Ben says.

[PICS] The Corvette Hobby Comes Together for the 7th Annual Corvettes for Chip

The Corvette Hobby Comes Together for the 7th Annual Corvettes for Chip

Article contributed by Lance Miller / Corvettes at Carlisle / Chip Miller Charitable Foundation

The Corvette hobby lost an amazing person in 2004. My father, Chip Miller passed away from a rare disease called amyloidosis. Shortly after his passing, my family and I decided to start the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation (CMCF) in his honor and to raise awareness of this terrible disease.

The Corvette hobby was and continues to be the driving force behind the efforts and mission of the CMCF. My father was not only a wonderful person; he was also a best friend and mentor to me and many of my friends. His loss affected me in many ways, but most importantly to follow his mantra of “Life is good!” He was an incredibly positive, caring and generous person and his passing made me realize just how precious every minute really is and to enjoy the time we have on this earth.

In 2005 during Corvettes at Carlisle I wanted to do something different for Chip’s Choice that would honor not only my father but the parent and child relationship. That year we featured Parent / Child relationships through Corvette ownership. Many of the stories were extremely emotional and brought tears to my eyes; some were fun and entertaining and would make you smile from ear to ear. One submission included Andy Rumford and his son, both who came to Corvettes at Carlisle that year. Andy mentioned that he would like to start an event in honor of my father and to help raise money and awareness for amyloidosis. Immediately the CMCF board provided the green light and Andy along with Michael Crank jumped into creating the annual event dubbed Corvettes for Chip. Obviously it takes more than a couple people to facilitate and run a Corvette fundraising event, so Andy and Michael quickly secured various local Corvette club members to help with the effort. After seven years, the event continues to thrive and brings in many smiles along with some incredible Corvettes which of course helps to generate much needed donations for the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.

7th Annual Corvettes for Chip

The event was held for the first time at Thomas Chevrolet in Media, PA. Beautiful weather, an outstanding location and a vast array of incredible Corvettes helped to make this year’s Corvettes for Chip an exceptional event. The Best of Show went to Pat Lamerton and his beautiful ’64 Corvette! Each year the committee asks me to pick my favorite Corvette on the field. This year I chose a ’69 Corvette owned by Frank Andalora with Delaware Valley NCRS. Frank knew my father and they would travel to various Corvette events and challenge one another on the show circuit with their ’69 Corvettes. One weekend my father’s ’69 would win, the next weekend Frank’s would win. Frank and my father quickly realized it wasn’t the competition that kept them coming back, it was the friendship. Frank spoke about the many lasting friendships he created through his ‘69 Corvette. When all is said and done, that’s what our hobby is all about… the people and friendships that are formed.

I must also mention the many tasty baked goods at the event for sale as well. In fact, I scored some of the tastiest brownies I’ve had in a long time (sorry Michele). The majority of the baked goods came from the Williams family whose father/husband has amyloidosis and has been supporting Corvettes for Chip for the past several years. There were also some amazing auction items and a 50/50 raffle.

7th Annual Corvettes for Chip

After the awards presentation, I introduced Michelle Major, who shared her heartfelt story about her late husband’s battle with amyloidosis. Her husband was misdiagnosed for over a year, and of course, like my father, when they finally diagnosed him with amyloidosis, the disease was too far gone for effective treatment. Her courage and determination throughout their ordeal helped remind me just how important it is to continue our fight against this deadly disease.

Wrapping up the days’ festivities included a drawing for a freshly delivered 2014 Stingray Corvette. I had the honor to pull the winning ticket from the County Corvette Associations sold out and extremely successful raffle. Rocky Crisconi, a member of Corvette Club of Northern Delaware, ran up to the car and got on his knees and kissed the front of his new 2014 Corvette when his name was called over the microphone. What a wonderful way to end a great day!

If you weren’t able to make the event and would like to contribute towards the CMCF, please feel free visiting: http://chipmiller.org. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

7th Annual Corvettes for Chip

From the bottom of my heart I’d like to thank all of the sponsors, participants, attendees and especially each of the volunteers that make this event what it has become! It means the world to my family and the CMCF board members knowing my father is still making a positive impact even ten years after his passing.

As my best friend would always say… LIFE IS GOOD!

On a side note, Andy Rumford (co-founder of Corvettes for Chip) never met my father and simply wanted to do something nice to help a son that was grieving because his father passed away way too early. He wanted to help us spread the word about this terrible disease. Losing a father or mother is incredibly difficult, however, losing a son or daughter is more difficult. In fact, it’s something I can’t even fathom and something I hope never happens. This past year Andy and his wife lost their daughter Kacie who passed away from a heroin overdose. Promptly following her passing the Rumford family started Kacie’s Cause (more information can be found by visiting http://www.kaciescause.com/). Please visit the website and take some time to learn about this terrible problem that’s occurring more and more frequently. Andy and his family would like to help other families recognize the tragic consequences of heroin and the addictions it may cause.

Black C6 Corvette Z06 Gets Upgraded with D2FORGED CV2 Wheels

Black C6 Corvette Z06 Gets Upgraded with D2FORGED CV2 Wheels

I abolutely love the eye candy that the wheel guys put out and nobody does it better than D2FORGED Wheels. We’ve seen their CV2 Concave Wheels before on a C5 Convertible, but now we got another photoset of them mounted on a black C6 Corvette Z06.

We know many of you like the whole blacked-out look but in my mind, nothing makes a Black Corvette shine like a set of polished wheels. And the fact that they are a five-spoke design also lends itself to the traditional 5-spokes that Chevrolet has been putting on Corvettes since the 1980s. At first glance it looks original, but when you take a closer look you can see there is a lot more going on.

On this Corvette Z06, D2FORGED is featuring the CV2 Deep Concave wheels in 19×10 fronts and 20×12.5 rears. The wheels have a BBC center with a hi-luster polished outer lip and a ceramic clearcoat while the inner barrel is metallic silver.

Check out these photos and if you have more questions like “Where can I get these?”, use the dealer locater on www.d2forged.com.
