One of the great aspects of the Bloomington Gold show each year is seeing the rarest of the rare Corvettes. You never know what’s going to show up on that last weekend in June. This year’s big surprise was 1953 Corvette VIN 009. That’s right, the 9th Corvette ever built. It was being displayed for […]
[VIDEO] Classic 1959 Corvette Gets a Boost with an LS2 Engine Swap

Others, like the owner of this 1959 model, don’t see anything wrong with making a few changes, especially when taking advantage of modern amenities. Sure, 1959 was a great year for beautiful styling, […]

Purifoy Chevrolet Builds a One-of-a-Kind Pink Corvette Stingray
Our friends at Purifoy Chevrolet in Fort Lupton, CO. have done it again.
The dealership is known for not being afraid of taking a stock Corvette and adding their own custom touches to it. We’ve previously detailed a couple of their custom builds with C6 Corvettes but now it’s time to look at their latest creation, a custom pink metallic C7 Corvette Stingray.
The Corvette Stingray was shipped to the Colorado dealership earlier this year. The original stock Corvette featured an Arctic White exterior while the luxurious interior had 3LT appointments including suede microfiber on the seat inserts and and upper suede trim package. The 460-hp LT1 was coupled to a six-speed paddle shift automatic transmission with the dual mode performance exhaust. Chrome wheels provide the curb appeal.
Once the Stingray arrived at Purifoy, the Corvette’s exterior panels were removed and painted a custom light pink pearl metallic. Purifoy added a custom stripe to the hood and painted the mirrors and spoiler in Carbon Flash metallic. Once the car was reassembled, the windows were tinted and custom fiberglass rocker panels were added. The final touches come from a custom pinstripe painted by Louie.
Here’s some pics of Purifoy’s Light Pink Pearl Metallic Corvette Stingray:
We spoke with Purifoy’s Internet Marketing Manager Marissa Marx about the Corvette and she says it was originally destined to go to one of the local hospitals but then that deal fell apart. She said the Stingray was listed for sale on their website at www.PurifoyChevrolet.com for just two days before being snapped up by a customer.
Want to see some of Purifoy’s previous custom creations? Here’s a Custom 2012 Corvette Grand Sport built for Denver’s 2011 Greybeard Creme de la Chrome car show. And this Synergy Green 2010 Corvette Grand Sport features an Edelbrock supercharger and ZR1-styled hood with a custom interior.
Purifoy Chevrolet has been in business for over 50 years and they are consistently ranked as the #1 Corvette dealer in Colorado. More importantly, Purifoy ranks as one of the top GM dealerships in customer satisfaction for both sales and service. If you are interested in a new 2014 Corvette Stingray or the all new Callaway Corvette, give Marissa a call at 303-535-5095 or visit them on the web at www.PurifoyChevrolet.com.

Forgiato Widebody C7 Corvette Stingrays Now Available in Multiple Flavors
We’ve talked about the Forgiato Widebody C7 Corvette Stingrays before because frankly, we think they’re cool. And while some other auto sites and Corvette traditionalists continue to bash these cars, we hold them up as great examples of the what can be done with a base Corvette Stingray when you have time, money and a vision.
The Forgiato Corvette widebodies burst onto the automotive stage just before last year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. Having received their initial Corvette Stingray from our friends at Purifoy Chevrolet in Ft. Lupton, CO, the Corvette was modified in just a few weeks by the car designer Topo (aka The Widebody King) at TS Designs.
The custom Corvette widebody was a hit with the SEMA folks were it attracted some of the largest crowds each day. The SEMA judges were also taken and gave the car their 2013 SEMA Design Award for “Best Chevrolet Exterior”.
When we last talked about the Forgiato widebodies, it was because we had learned that they were making a special five unit run consisting of three coupes and two convertibles. They are using eBay to sell the cars and we’ve seen the listings for the Coupes set at $165,000. However, at the time, we only had photos of two coupes, both wearing that distinctive “Aston Martin Blue” paint scheme.
Now it appears that the special run of five vehicles is nearing completion as Forgiato is showing off a group of three widebody Stingrays which include the two Convertibles and one Coupe.
The twist though is that instead of every single widebody Corvette going with the original “Aston Martin Blue”, we see one of the coupes done in Tangelo Orange while a convertible is wearing a very red Red. (yes I meant to say it twice). The second convertible is available in the original AM Blue paint scheme.
Here’s the latest photos from Forgiato:
Doing some digging, we found an active ebay ad for the Forgiato Corvette widebody Stingrays.
The auction runs for the next 20 days and ends on April 21st. We have seen previous ebay ads on these cars before so it’s no surprise that Forgiato is going with a longer ad run, especially when the pricing on these custom stingrays runs $165K. Questions on the sale of these cool Corvettes can be directed to nc@forgiato.com.

[PICS] West Coast Customs Takes On the 2014 Corvette Stingray
The Corvette Stingray has been in production for roughly eight months now and we’re starting to see some owners and shops show off their custom work. One shop that is well known for their over-the-top designs and fabrications is West Coast Customs, who recently showed off a completed supercharged Corvette Stingray on their facebook page.
The brand new non-Z51 2014 Corvette Stingray arrived at West Coast Customs in December 2013 with only 24 miles on the odometer and the window sticker still attached. It was immediately broken down with most of its body panels removed. A procharger was added to the engine bay while their audio technicians when to work in the trunk.
Except for the hood and custom yellow/black wheels, the exterior customization appear to be mostly paint. The top was done in full black from the A-pillars to the rear hatch while certain areas of the car from the “fangs” on the front fascia to portions of the side were accented in black as well. A black Stingray fender badge and “CORVETTE” lettering on the back were also blacked out.
A clear window in the hood reminiscent of the C6′s ZR1 makes a return and shows off the newly painted yellow engine cover under it.
Interior customization included changing the door pulls, passenger grab handle and portions of the center console in yellow. The yellow accents continue around the top of the dash as well. Custom stitched suede inserts with yellow threading was added to the seats. As mentioned, the rear cargo area was transformed into a giant audio system.
Reviewing the photos on WCC’s facebook page, we see another Corvette Stingray with a Cyber Gray exterior and the Kalahari interior which is referred to as the “Continental Tires Corvette Stingray” undergoing the WCC treatment. A television crew is filming that car so look for it on an upcoming episode of West Coast Custom’s TV show which has new episodes coming in April on Fox Sports 2.
In the meantime, enjoy these pictures showing off the Velocity Yellow Corvette Stingray from WCC’s facebook page.

[PICS] The 1957 Hot Rod Magazine Project Corvette Reborn
Back in the early 1970′s Hot Rod magazine was looking for a project car to go racing in. What they decided to use was a 1957 Corvette with the 270hp 283ci engine and a 3 speed transmission. Once completed they tore up west drag strips en route to national ET and speed records. After it’s short racing career, nothing much was heard of this car until it showed up last weekend at Detroit Autorama sporting a fresh frame off restoration.
Chevrolet built 6,339 Corvettes for the 1957 model year. 1,621 owners received the 270hp dual quad 283 engine under the hood like the Hot Rod project car initially did. That 283 was promptly pulled and replaced with a fuel injected 283 featuring forged pistons and a “cheater” cam. Other racing tricks included a race ready aluminum Powerglide transmission and a front sway bar that was present, but not actually hooked up. Once the project was completed, John Dianna and Marv Ripes campaigned the car from August 1970 through January 1971 along the west coast. The first race for the car was the 1970 Super Nationals in Ontario, California where it won its class. Over the course of its stint with the Hot Rod staff it would go on to win again at Bakersfield in addition to claiming a runner up finish at the Winter Nationals in Pomona in early 1971. Typical quarter mile times were in the mid-twelves at 115mph. It was the first Hot Rod project car to claim elapsed time and top speed records.
After the car’s brief, but successful racing career with the Hot Rod crew, it was sold to racers Bob Tesch and Ron Costello who ran the car until 1973. At that time the drivetrain and body were separated and the car sat until 1980 when an acquaintance of current owner Craig Wood found and bought the car. After 5 years of persuasion, Wood was finally able to purchase the car from his friend in the fall of 1985. After Wood bought the well-used Corvette it sat for another 27 years until 2012 when he finally began a meticulous 1,200 hour body-off restoration. Wood performed essentially all of the work himself and was even able to reuse roughly 90% of its original chrome and stainless steel trim. Finally, on August 27th, 2013 the Hot Rod project car was driven for the first time in nearly 40 years.
Under the hood now resides a fuel injected motor very similar to the one which Dianna and Ripes ran. It features a 1960 block, 1962 fuel injection system, and 1966 heads. The current transmission is a Powerglide built to same specs as it had in the ’70′s. The body sports 8 gallons of paint in 5 different colors: Black, Persimmon, Silver Pearl, Venetian Red, and finally Gold mixed into the clear coat. Those wild pinstripes were reapplied by the same striper who applied them back in the day.
Wood plans drive the car after showing off the fruits of his labor at several of the big shows around the country this summer. He even plans to put Marv Ripes back in the car someday. Until you can see it in person enjoy our gallery of the 1957 Hot Rod Magazine project car below.

[PICS] Corvettes and More at the 2014 Detroit Autorama
Detroit Autorama takes place each year in early March. For those of us up here in the snowy Midwest, it’s the first sign that winter may actually be over and that car show season is in the near future. 2014 marked the 62nd edition of the massive indoor custom car show. Thousands of custom, restored, and original cars fill Cobo Hall each year competing for a multitude of awards. Click past the jump to see our gallery of Corvettes for the 2014 Detroit Autorama.
Entrants in the show range from 100 point, factory-correct fully-restored show cars to all out ultra-high-end customs built by Foose, Coddington, and others. This year’s featured builder was Troy Trapanier which included a selection of some of his wildest creations. There is no limit to the creativity and talent that is on display each year. Cars being shown for the first time battle it out for selection into the Great 8 with hopes of taking home the prestigious Ridler Award. This year an amazing 1964 twin-turbo bright yellow Riviera took home Ridler the trophy.
Of course we’re partial to Corvettes, but some of our other favorites included a 1962 Plymouth Savoy Wagon, a wild 1969 Camaro featuring C5 Z06 driveline and interior, and a sinister Pro Touring 1967 Nova. Our favorite Corvette by far was the 1957 racer originally built by Hot Rod Magazine. We’ll have more on that car a little later this week.
In addition to all of the polished classics, hundreds of vendors were available selling various wares ranging from 4 post lifts to complete restoration services. The Toy-A-Rama section contained thousands of die-casts, models and various toys for children of all ages. The Cobo Hall basement is the home to old school customs as well as traditional and rat rods. We could spend all day down there.
We already showed you a few of the Corvettes from Detroit Autorama on Facebook over the weekend, and now our full gallery is below. As always, we’ve also included in some of our favorite non-vettes for your review as well.
