[PICS] 1976 Corvette Stingray Gets Updated by Vilner

The C7 isn’t the only Stingray getting an interior makeover these days.

Take a look, for example, at this 1976 Corvette Stingray that has been updated with upgrades inside, outside, and under the hood by Bulgarian interior specialist Vilner.

Vilner has reworked the instrumentation and added the nice touch of contrasting stitching on the leather dash, not to mention covering the seats with comfortable-looking calf-nappa leather. They replaced the factory wood elements of the interior with Corian, made from acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate and also upgraded the sound system with three amps and a three-band front system from Ground Zero.

Of course, we have a feeling that the radio won’t be the only thing providing some wonderful sounds in this car as Vilner added a new head, shafts, and two twin carbs from Edelbrock to the V8 5.7-liter engine to raise the horsepower to 300.

Outside, the touch we like the most is the trunk – a real trunk that sits atop the luggage rack on the back of the Stingray. You’ll also see beautiful pearl brown paint and leather-wrapped targa roof trim with decorative stitching.

Since we are living in the 21st century now, Vilner also added some safety features of our time, including daytime running lights and new turn signals, along with LED taillights.

SEMA 2013: Your Custom Corvette Photo Gallery

SEMA 2013: Your Custom Corvette Photo Gallery

Last week two thirds of the CorvetteBlogger wolfpack was out in Las Vegas wandering around the desert looking for strippers and cocaine at the annual SEMA show. The SEMA show is the banner event for the automotive aftermarket industry. This year 125,000+ attendees perused the latest wares from hundreds of suppliers. Countless custom rides become the show pieces to display the newest products and industry trends. SEMA is only open to members, buyers, vendors, and media. Don’t fret if you couldn’t be there as our Corvette photo gallery awaits you just beyond the Read More button below.

Obviously we were there to check out the latest offerings for Corvettes and we weren’t disappointed. Over a dozen new C7′s were there in addition earlier models. We’ve already shown you the Chevrolet’s Gran Turismo, Atlantic, and Pacific concepts. We’ve also taken a close up look at the Jeff Nowicki’s Concept7, Forgiato’s wide body, and Legacy Innovations’ awesome 1958.

Some of our favorite Corvettes there included the C7′s in the booths belonging to LG Motorsports, Kooks Headers, and Lingenfelter Performance. HRE wheels showed a cool pearl white Stingray sporting 2 different wheel types on each side of the car while Vossen wheels adorned the P58 concept from Pfadt. Karls Kustoms and Classic Reflection Coachworks showed off their cool retrovettes and our friends at the Bondurant School of Performance Driving had a couple of their new classrooms on display.

While the new Stingray was most prevalent, the older Corvette generations were still well represented. . Both Hawk Performance and Wilwood Brakes each had C6′s prominently on display. Then there was Brian Hobaugh’s Ultimate Street Car Shootout-winning C2 parked outside. We also stumbled across the mind numbing C2/SS and an, ahem, interesting heavily modded Ford powered 1978 coupe.

There’s something for everyone at SEMA. Our evidence to that fact lies in the photo gallery below.

Forgiato Wheels Building a Widebody C7 Corvette Stingray for SEMA

Forgiato Wheels Building Widebody C7 Corvette Stingray for SEMA

Forgiato Wheels has recently shown off a rendering of a widebody C7 Corvette Stingray that the company is building for the SEMA show next month in Las Vegas. The Corvette is being modified by Topo aka the self-proclaimed widebody king. The render shows what the finished Corvette will look like when finished but we also found some pics showing the transformation in progress.

Forgiato first announced the project in September on their blog but details of the finished car and what wheels and sizes will be mounted on the widebody C7 are still to come. We do see that Corvette that is being modified is a Blade Silver Z51 Coupe.

Click here to see a larger version of the Widebody C7 Rendering from Forgiato.

The rendering also shows the Corvette will be outfitted with a carbon fiber splitter and rocker panels and the spoiler looks to be exaggerated as well.

Like what you see so far? We’ll be at the SEMA show this year and will make sure to get as much info and pics about the widebody build and Forgiato’s wheels for Corvettes.

Corvettes on eBay: Psychedelic Themed 1965 Corvette Coupe

Corvettes on eBay: Psychedelic Themed 1965 Corvette Coupe

Check out this interesting midyear Coupe we found for sale on eBay. The psychedelic sixties were over a long time ago but sometimes they live on as in the case of the paint job found on this 1965 Corvette, down to the peace sign painted on the gas door cover. The auction still has a couple more days to go and so far the top bid has just surpassed $20,000.

The seller lists the Corvette as having just 83,239 miles. He says he has owned the car since 1974 and that the car was parked in a garage in 1982, never to officially hit the streets since then. The California plate with the 1982 sticker on it is testament to this being a pretty cool garage find!

The engine is supposedly a 1965 327 V8 with the intake and carbs off a Corvette 283 V8 from 1956 or 1957. The seller says the engine was rebuilt in 1975 and was decked 0.10 and the heads milled 0.15 with stock domed pistons. It’s an interesting combination but the look is all wrong for this generation of Corvette.

There’s something else going on with this Corvette that we noticed when we took a look at the interior. First, the dash has a faux woodgrain covering which can be easily fixed, but when you look at the gauges themselves, they appear to be from a 1963 or 1964 Corvette and not from 1965.

The seller calls this Corvette “the cheapest ’65 on the internet” and so far the pricing is right in line for a nearly complete non-running C2 Coupe. But with 40 bids already received, we expect to see a flurry of activity as the time counts down to the end of the auction on October 10th at 12:00:00 PDT.

Here are some more photos of this fantastic plastic ’65 Corvette Sting Ray from the swinging sixties baby!

[UPDATE] The Electric C3 Corvette Hits the Road

[UPDATE] The Electric C3 Corvette Hits the Road

We first told you about Keith Stegath’s electric C3 Corvette back in December of 2011. Now, nearly 2 years later, the battery powered 1976 Corvette continues to take shape. In fact, Stegath told us in a recent email that the car’s first test drive was a 10 mile jaunt to a nearby car show. He also reports that he made it home that day without the need for a tow truck.

When we last saw the electric C3 the project was still in its relatively early stages. The body was off the frame and a lot of the early design and fabrication was underway. As mentioned earlier, the car is now road worthy and Keith has since added a 300 volt battery pack, a 2000 amp controller and what he describes as a “highly integrated touchscreen computer interface”. In case you’re wondering, 300 volts worth of batteries weighs about 1,200lbs. As of today, he’s got roughly 100 miles on his creation.

Currently Keith continues to work on the leather interior, the air conditioning, and that touchscreen computer interface. The body still wears a coat of primer, but he’s added a set of 1969 style side-pipes in addition to a front spoiler.

Upcoming tasks include modifying the front grills as well as adding front & rear bumperettes. He continues to tweak the graphical user interface which is now in its 3rd revision. The computer system now controls virtually everything on the car including the windows, HVAC, the intermittent windshield wipers, the headlights, interior lighting, and the stereo among others. It will also monitor the battery’s status, including current draw of the drive motor and 12 volt system as well as the inside and outside air temps.

When it comes to modifying Corvettes, there’s no limit to owners’ creativity and Keith Stegath’s battery powered 1976 coupe is a perfect example of that. Thanks, Keith for keeping up in the loop on your unique project!

Here are a few recent pix of Keith’s electric C3 conversion.

Say hello to Gerald Bunce’s twin turbo C6 corvette.

The 2008 Corvette makes 3,000+ HP with the help from the 427 cubic inch Proline Racing engine and 88mm turbochargers. A huge set of Goodyear racing slicks are connected to the pavement through a solid axle and a 4-link suspension.

Michigan Corvette Owner Ready to Show His Custom 1981 Corvette at Saginaw’s Old Town Motorfest

Michigan Corvette Owner Readyto Show His Custom 1981 Corvette at Saginaw's Old Town Motorfest

Matt Rodriguez made it back more than 40 years ago from Vietnam, where he worked as a crew chief on a chopper.

After he returned to the States in 1970, he began a 30-year career with General Motors in the tool and dye department. That’s when he also started his long love affair with Corvettes, picking up a used 1968 model that he later sold to buy a new 1980.

“When you are young, everyone wants a Corvette, and I had an opportunity,” Rodriguez said.

He wishes he still had that first Corvette, but the custom 1981 model he owns now has a soft spot in his heart, too.

“It didn’t look like that when I got it,” he says. “It was kind of messed up.”

After overhauling the engine and adding a new paint job and interior, among other things, Rodriguez will be showing his pearl white creation during the eighth annual Old Town Motorfest on Sunday, July 21 from noon to 4 p.m. in Old Town Saginaw, Michigan.

Steve Snow, co-owner of Dynamic Corvettes at 308 N. Hamilton St., Saginaw has worked for more than a decade with Rodriguez on the restoration of his ’81. Snow is helping organize this year’s show and believes about 4,000 to 5,000 people will turn out to look at some 200 classic cars and motorcycles lining the way along South Hamilton and Court streets.

Registration for the event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at The Saginaw News office, inside the Ippel Building at 100 S. Michigan Ave. Cost to enter a vehicle is $15. Admission to the show is free to the public.

Registered car owners have a chance to win cash prizes every 30 minutes with trophies for Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Paint and Best Motorcycle presented at the conclusion of the show. The Saginaw News also plans to present its second annual “Headliner Award” at the show for a vehicle that “really turns some heads.”

Snow and the crew at Dynamic Corvettes have helped Rodriguez restore his Corvette since he bought it in 2000 from a dealer in Holton.

For example, the pop-up headlights have been replaced with custom, sunken-in lights, and as is the case for many of us, Rodriguez’ car is always a work in progress. In fact, he’s just ordered a new custom hood that will be the next step in the restoration.

“Every year we do something new to it,” Snow said. “Some guys take a bit at a time and some do it all at once. It’s a nice car.”

Snow says the car is customized to the personal taste of Rodriguez. “Some people prefer the custom look, and others like to keep it original,” Snow says.

It’s a car that Rodriguez says he loves cruising around town and going to car shows. “It’s a car,” he says. “Put miles on it – that’s what they are designed for.”

Ironically, Rodriguez bought his first Corvette at a shop in Kalamazoo, the same place where Snow started his 40-year career working on Corvettes.

Snow said he’s expecting “perfect car show weather” on Sunday when everything from street rods and low riders to classics will be on display.

Sunday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-70s.

“I think we’ll have a great turnout,” Snow said. “It’s about enjoying Old Town. If you don’t have a chance to come here normally, it’s a reason to walk around. With the shops and restaurants it’s a great place to do a show. It’s something different to do on a Sunday.”

Old Town Motorfest is organized by the Old Town Saginaw Association with help from Dynamic Corvettes and Bay Valley Corvette Club. Proceeds from the event are donated to various charitable organizations.

[PICS] Red C5 Corvette on D2FORGED FMS05 Wheels

Here’s another great photo gallery from our friends at D2FORGED showing their custom wheels on a C5 Corvette. Back in May we shared a C5 Convertible Widebody riding on D2FORGED CV2 colormatched wheels and now they’ve supplied us with pics of the red C5 Corvette which is sitting tight on a set of FMS05 Wheels.

The FMS lineup (which stands for Fixed Modular Spec) is directly targeted to owners who want to go the forged wheels route for their car but don’t want to spend a ton of money on them. The FMS05 wheels start at $4,200 for a set sized at 18″.

The C5 Corvette shown feature 20×9 front wheels and 20×11 rear wheels. The wheels have a Matte Black Center with a gloss black outer lip and a gloss red inner barrel. The wheels also featured Matte black fasteners and red D2 centercaps.

Check out these photos and then visit D2FORGED for more information.
