[VIDEO] VP Joe Biden Really Really Likes the New Corvette Z06

We know that Joe Biden loves his 1967 Corvette. But after seeing the new Corvette Stingray and Z06 at last month’s NAIAS, we’re pretty sure that the country’s vice president has a severe case of Corvette Fever for the new models.

Our Corvette-loving Vice President was captured on video talking to the UAW Legislative Conference on Wednesday. After highlighting several new autos from the different automakers, Biden ask the crowd to indulge him as he makes some comments about the new Corvette Stingray and the upcoming Corvette Z06.

Here is what “Uncle Joe” said:

“I still have my ’67 Corvette. By the way, my grown sons had it rebuilt for me, and it cost seven times the sticker price, rebuilt. But, it’s a quarter horse, man. That’s all it is, is a quarter horse.”

“But that new Stingray, yoooo. Oh, it’s more than a quarter horse, even though it goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds — not that I like speed. It also can track on a curve. It has a 106.7 inch wheelbase. It has more weight in the back, for the first time ever. And I could hardly wait, if I were just not in this job, to take on my friend’s Porsche.”

“I’m serious. It’s the best buy in America!”

“You know, Motor Trend says it snaps back the center and let’s you hold the car through any corner. I can hardly wait!”

“You know, by the way you guys, everyone wants to know whether I am going to run for president. There’s a lot of reasons to run for president, but there’s one overwhelming reason not to run for president. I’d like to get that Z06 (pronounced zee-zero-six) with 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. 3-4 seconds! You tack that sucker up to six grand and this comes out of the hole like a bullet, man.”

“I was talking to the chairman of General Motors and I said, ‘God, I’d love to drive this sucker.’ And I said ‘the only place they let me to drive is on the test track at the secret service’. And he said ‘maybe we can arrange to have one there.’ I may ask.”

Here is the video of Vice President Joe Biden making these comments to the UAW:

Joe saw the 2015 Corvette Z06 for the first time when he made a visit to the 2014 North American International Auto Show with GM CEO Mary Barra in Detroit last month. Here’s some of the photos from that visit:

[VIDEO] 1968 Corvette Time-Lapse Tear Down

[VIDEO] 1968 Corvette Time-Lapse Tear Down border=

Many Corvette owners have never torn their cars apart, content to drive them just the way they are or pay someone else to do the dirty restoration work.

For those faithful, we offer two time-lapse videos that documents a man singlehandedly taking apart a C3 Corvette roadster with a few wrenches and his bare hands – oh, and a hoist lift to raise the body off the frame and lower it gently to the ground.

That’s when our lone worker proceeds to take off the front clip and even does a little grinding and welding on the base of the A-frame.

Too bad real life doesn’t pass the time as quickly as the time-lapse world.

This California big block, Tri-Power convertible looks a little rough around the edges for now, but as we all know, a restoration goes a long way toward bringing a “dead” car back to “life.”

Here’s hoping that this fellow can remember which bolt goes where. Based on his abilities to take the 1968 Corvette apart, though, we’re sure he can put it back together again, just like new.

The Corvette Stingray has been in production since August 2013 and thousands of new C7s have already found their way to customers. At the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles was asked about providing some production stats for the new Stingray and he happily obliged.

According to Harlan, a total of 16,000 Corvette Stingrays have either been built or there are orders to build in the system. He says they are building about 3,000 Corvettes per month in Bowling Green.

The top three exterior colors so far are Torch Red, Black and Arctic White. He also mentioned that Cyber Gray and the new Laguna Blue were also “up there” in terms of customers’ ordering preferences. The Black interior is still tops while the new Adrenaline Red is very popular as well.

In the past, the Chrome wheel options were typically the top choice from buyers, but Harlan says the new black wheels are very popular and now it’s really close between black and chrome for the most popular color of wheels.

The Z51 package has been running close to 60% of all Corvettes ordered which Harlan claims is about all they can handle. Magnetic Selective Ride Control is on more than half of the Z51 orders.

Finally, Harlan says the most popular equipment group is the top-of-the-line 3LT.

You can watch Harlan along with Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion talk about the new C7 Corvette Stingray and Z06 from the Corvette Corral at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona last weekend. Thanks to Jake Drennon of the C5/C6/C7 Corvette Registry for sharing the video:

Just one tidbit about the new 2015 Corvette Z06. Harlan was asked if there would be a true Corvette Z06 convertible to which he replied, “I don’t really have an announcement at this time.” Hey, that’s not a denial so stay tuned!!

[VIDEO] Tommy Milner Helmet Cam from the Daytona 24

Want to see what a few laps was like from a drivers perspective during the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona? Tommy Milner, co-driver of the No.4 Corvette C7.R, wore a GoPro camera mounted to his helmet during one of his practice stints. We get to see him suit up and then climb into the new Corvette racecar during a night time pit stop and then drive off to rejoin the field.

The video comes from /DRIVE and is part of their “Drivers Eye” series.

I love the sound the new C7.R makes but what’s really fun is watching the action inside the drivers cockpit. The color gauge display lights up like Christmas when its time for Tommy to shift and the gear selection is displayed as well.

What we find also amazing is the quick succession of downshifts made as Tommy drops from around 175 mph in 6th gear on the super-speedway part of the circuit to 2nd gear and 70 mph as he enters the infield roadcourse.

Corvette Racing fans will also note the return of the rear facing camera which picks up cars behind the C7.R and lets the driver know if its a prototype or GT car and which side its approaching.

During the actual race, the No.4 Corvette C7.R was very competitive, trading P1 and P2 with the factory Porsche 911 team. It would eventually fall out of the running as gearbox issues made it head to the garage, effectively ending the chances for a podium finish.

But fear not Corvette Racing fans! The Corvette C7.Rs crew will learn from this experience and you know they will be itching to atone for the mechanical failures at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March.

Thanks again for /DRIVE and Tommy Milner to show us what the experience is like to race the Corvette C7.Rs at Daytona.

[VIDEO] 2015 Corvette Z06 - Chevrolet Supercar Technology

GM shares a firsthand look at the interior and technology in the new Corvette Z06 from Ryan Vaughan, design manager for performance car interiors.

Ryan takes us through some of that new technology found in the 2015 Corvette Z06 including the dual eight-inch high definition screens and color HUD as well as the new Performance Data Recorder which can record video of your driving and overlay telemetry data onto the recording. Ryan also touches on the new Chevy MyLink app store as well.

I think we’ve really started embracing the technology and really starting to show it off and its something that customers expect. They expect this technology in this vehicles. They have it in other areas of their lives, in their homes, and the car needs to be an extension of that. – Ryan Vaughan, Chevrolet.

Here is another featured race from the StreetCarDrags.com event at Palm Beach International Raceway this past weekend. We’ve got a 2013 Tesla Model S P85 running heads up against the brand new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z51 with the 6 speed automatic transmission.

While the cars are pretty even for the first 1/8 mile with both trapping 90 MPH, the Corvette starts to pull away on the back half of the track, it all comes down to the launch and reaction time to determine who wins.

The 1956 “Real McCoy” Corvette Sells for $2.3 Million at Mecum Kissimmee

The 1956

We knew that the 1956 Corvette that some have dubbed “the Corvette that saved the brand” should go for big money when it was auctioned at Mecum Kissimmee and we were not disappointed.

The hammer fell on Saturday afternoon with “The Real McCoy” reaching a high bid of $2.3 Million, catapulting the little white roadster with the rumbling V8 engine into the top five list of Corvettes sold at auction.

In its fourth year of production, the Corvette was relatively untested in competition, with some saying the Corvette still lacked the credentials that other sports cars had earned on the track.

Zora took the criticism to heart.

Begun as an Engineering Project, the mule known originally as #6901 was assembled under the guidance of Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov. Under the hood was a 307 ci V8 engine hopped up with the first known version of the “Duntov Cam” and dual Carter four-barrel carbs.

Zora identified Daytona’s Flying Mile record which then stood at a two-way average of just over 127 MPH as beatable. In February 1956 the 6901 mule Corvette shattered that record with a two-way average of 150.583 MPH. And in doing so just days before the opening of the 1956 GM Motorama at the Waldorf Astoria, he created a buzz that generated new found respect for the car.

But Chevy wasn’t finished yet with #6901 yet. Ed Cole announced that the mule would join a factory-backed three car team of production Corvettes for an assault on Sebring’s 12 hour race. With John Fitch leading the team and driving 6901 as the #1 Corvette in the race with Walt Hansgen, the Corvette faced its share of issues but persevered to win the class and finish ninth overall.

Chevrolet celebrated the class win with an advertisement that called #6901 “The Real McCoy”. The Corvette was finally bonafied with a class win at one of the world’s biggest races and would continue to be a force in national and international sports car race for the next 56+ years.

[VIDEO] Corvette C7.R Build and Development

Pratt and Miller posted this video earlier in the week that shows what it took to design and build the Corvette C7.R race car. The Corvette will make its racing debut this Saturday when it takes the field for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

The video starts with a time-lapse video of the build, starting with a tube frame. Oliver Gavin is seen testing the seat positions back at the shop annd then we see the camoflauged C7.R doing its first laps at Road America and then Daytona. We even hear Oliver exclaim “The car feels like an absolute beast!” during one of the test laps.

[VIDEO] Criswell Corvette’s Mike Furman Delivers His 3,000th Corvette

[VIDEO] Criswell Corvette's Mike Furman Delivers His 3,000th Corvette

Congratulations to our friend and CorvetteBlogger sponsor Mike Furman of Criswell Corvette who earlier this month delivered his 3,000th Corvette to a customer. Mike’s first Corvette sale goes all the way back to July 26, 1978 when he sold a 1978 Corvette to Cassius De la Victoria. Some 426 months later, Mike delivered his 3,000th Corvette to a customer from Potomac, MD.

Mike started his automotive career at the age of 17 when he began working for one of the storied Chevrolet dealers, Malcom Konner Auto Group in New Jersey.

He says that each of the 3,000 Corvette is memorable, but one of the things he misses with his nationwide sales is that he doesn’t get to personally meet every owner that is delivered a new Corvette.

His attention to the details – both large and small – is usually what endears him to his customers. Earlier this year, he was able to coordinate the R8C Museum delivery of two Corvette Stingrays for a father and son who reside in different states. And just last month, he was able to schedule the build and delivery of two Stingrays for two friends in New Mexico who also wanted to take delivery together at the National Corvette Museum.

Since the Corvette Stingray arrived on his showroom floor last fall, Mike’s been working on a record pace to get them to their owners. In October 2013, he delivered 57 Stingrays to customers, a number that GM says is a record. Mike says that should have been 61 Stingrays sold, but four of the deliveries were credited to September by his sales manager.

Mike’s record setting delivery was also commented on by John Fitzpatrick, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Performance Cars. John sent Mike a note saying “Congrats. 3,000 Corvette deliveries… A great accomplishment and a great example of how you are a true ambassador of the brand.” Corvette Assembly Plant Manager Dave Tatman’s Executive Assistant Christine Cartwright also commented on Mike’s sales achievement. “Congratulations on an incredible number and your dedication to Corvette! It’s no wonder you have been so successful over the years – your customer service is A-1… you do what you say you will and you follow through. I can attest to that personally. That’s a rare thing these days.”

Mike’s 3,000th Corvette sale to Richard of Potomac, MD was a Lime Rock Green 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible with the 3LT package. An interesting sidebar to the story is that Richard has recently restored his father’s car, a 1974 Jaguar E type that is nearly identical in colors to the Limerock Green/Kalahari Stingray. Here’s a video that Criswell Corvette put together to honor the momentous occasion.

So again, a big congratulations to Mike Furman. If you are interested in a new Corvette Stingray or any of the offerings from Callaway, Mike Furman is the man to call. You can find him at Criswell Corvette in Gaithersburg, MD at 301-212-4420 or via email at MFurman@CriswellAuto.com.
