[VIDEO] John Heinricy Drives the Hennessey HPE600 Corvette Stingray

Get ready for some beautiful sounds when you watch this video of Corvette legend John Heinricy test driving a 2014 Corvette Stingray with the Hennessey HPE600 package.

The last four minutes are pure music to Corvette enthusiasts as Heinricy, who has just been named one of three inductees to the 2014 Corvette Hall of Fame, lets the modified Z51 do the talking as he puts it through the paces on a track outside of Houston, Texas at the Hennessey Performance Group’s facility.

The HPE600 – thanks to modifications that include a cam and heads package with headers – produces a whopping 600 horsepower, 140 more than the base Corvette. You can also produce 700, 800, and 1,000 horsepower with other Hennessey packages.

“One of the things that’s really cool is how well and how strong it pulls right up to the red line just every time,” Heinricy says in the video.

He set the Corvette in performance track mode so the exhaust was wide open and making some beautiful sounds. He also shut off the traction control and stability system “so I could really push it around the track,” he says.

“And it was just awesome,” Heinricy says.

“Everything about the car worked extremely well,” he adds, “but the fact that it pulled so hard through all the gears really made it a lot of fun to drive. The sounds were outstanding with the exhaust open.”

In fact, he says it sounded just he was on a racetrack.

“That’s what the photographer told me when I ran him off the track out there,” Heinricy says, “that it sounded like a race car was coming at him.”

[VIDEO] C7 Corvette Stingray Testing at Navak in Serbia

Check out this video that shows Chevrolet testing a trio of C7s – two Torch Reds and a Velocity Yellow – on the Navak track in Belgrad, Serbia.

The Stingray has already been tested on the German Autobahn, where it roared to speeds of 300 km/h, in France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

The 2014 Corvette will be arriving at European dealers soon, and some lucky folks over there will be able to purchase new Stingrays (available only in Z51 form) at a cost of €69,990 in mainland Europe and £61,495 in the United Kingdom.

Since they’re Z51s, that means these cars will deliver 460 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque, figures that pleased the narrator in this video, Patrick Hermann, technical manager communications Chevrolet Europe.

The Z51 package, of course, includes enhanced aero package for optimized high-speed stability, electronic limited-slip differential, specific shocks, springs and stabilizer bars, specific performance gear ratio, dry-sump oiling system, differential and transmission cooling, larger front and rear wheels and tires, and larger front and rear brakes.

“We have so many interesting new developments in the car, like the active differential we have, like the new full electronic steering gear,” Hermann says.

What makes the latest Corvette so special to him, he says, “is that all the little parts coming together in very nice way, like the design, like the new technology, and how they blend together without losing the ideas about a Corvette.”

Hermann points out that the Corvette remains a daily driver but “we have such a sharp car on the track. What I always enjoy is how powerful the car is and how much torque it can deliver and it’s nice to enjoy all the talk when you’re driving on the track and you know how to handle it. But it’s also refined and precise and how all the electronics systems can help you without taking the fun away and the emotions that this car is delivering.”

And driving on the track, Hermann emphasizes, “is pure emotion, and this car is delivering it.”

He likes being able to select the level of support the car can offer the driver.

“And again I can switch it totally off if I’m feeling, ‘OK, I want to be in control from everything,’ and then I’m the driver and I’m totally in control, but as in the case of the limited slip differential, I’m getting all the traction support and I’m enjoying having all the power come out of it.”

[PIC] Father of Corvette's Chief Engineer Takes Delivery of new 2014 Corvette Stingray

On Wednesday at the National Corvette Museum, Mat Juechter took delivery of a new 2014 Laguna Blue Corvette Stingray Coupe.

Why so special you ask?

Mat’s son is none other than Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter. We hear that Mat already has a vanity plate for the car: MYSNSCR.

The car is Mat’s second Corvette, the other being a C6 which is his daily driver. Tadge said once he saw the new Stingray, he had to have it!

Here’s a video posted by the NCM that has Tadge and Mat talking about the car, and the clap-out the staff gives the duo as it’s driven out of the Museum.

It’s been a good week for Tadge. Automobile Magazine named his Corvette Stingray the 2014 Car of the Year and he himself was named 2014 Man of the Year. But to have your father be there and show his support by purchasing “his sons car” is pretty special indeed.

For the first time, two seats are being offered in the 2014 Corvette Stingray. The standard GT seat is already available and will soon be complemented by the race ready Competition Sport seat.

The new seats found in the C7 Corvette Stingray are most likely one of the biggest turnarounds the team can boast of when it comes to taking a weaknesses on the C6 Corvette and turning it into a strength on the C7. In this video from Chevrolet, Seat Engineer Ken Taylor talks about how digital pressure-mapping and dynamic testing resulted in the much better seats now being offered on the C7.

Digital pressure mapping is technology that scans the drivers back and rear when seated. A sheet containing the sensors are installed over the seats and they can measure thousands of data points per second to show how the body interacts with the seat. Engineers can then use this information to craft a better seat based on that data. But it gets better.

Most seat development programs only use digital pressure-mapping with a driver in a static environment. Chevy engineers installed the pressure mapping technology into a prototype Corvette and then went to the track. Engineers created a map with more than 4,600 data points per second to show how the seat and bolsters were supporting drivers during high speed maneuvers.

Here’s the video from Chevrolet showing the seat development for the C7 Corvette Stingray:

In designing the new seats, Chevy engineers used advanced materials such as the cast magnesium frame which provides greater strength. The hardback shell on the seats also provide support by increasing the feeling of rigidity. Chevy also moved the side airbag to a pod along side the seat so that the seats could be slimmer, stiffer and more supportive.

“While most Corvette drivers will find the GT seat perfectly comfortable and supportive, those who go to a track will appreciate the extra support offered by the Sport seat,” said Ryan Vaughan, design manager, performance car interiors. “They’re both a testament to the enormous amount of work that went into them. These are the best seats Corvette has ever had.”

“Better seats topped our list for interior improvements, and we knew offering just one style would not cut it,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Some Corvette drivers use the car for commutes, others as a grand tourer, and some drive it competitively. With two supportive seat options to choose from, drivers can pick the style that best suits their driving habits.”
