Many of us have reported seeing new Corvette Stingrays on a hauler going down the highway on their way to some lucky owners.

But here’s something that might be a first: a 2014 Stingray aboard an airplane!

This beautiful Laguna Blue Corvette headed from Los Angeles to Europe was featured in a story this week on InsideSoCal.com about the way Lufthansa Cargo carries many items for its customers around the world.

If you need to drive your Stingray in France next week and just can’t wait on a ship, then Lufthansa Cargo is definitely one way to go.

The German-based company flies into Los Angeles International Airport three times a week. For a couple of hours, reporter Brian Sumers says, the tarmac is bustling, with crews simultaneously loading and unloading cargo, prompting the plane to either rise or fall.

It’s interesting to note that this MD-11 that flew non-stop from LAX to Lufthansa’s hub in Frankfurt, Germany is a little tricky to load. Every pallet loaded with items has to be in just the right spot or the plane might tip.

While we may think the Stingray is very special cargo, to Lufthansa it was just a small part of the 76,000 pounds of cargo being carried overseas on this particular night.

In fact, the Corvette didn’t even have a cover on it, which would leave me a little nervous if it were mine. Maybe we’re just being a little paranoid, but nevertheless let’s hope there wasn’t any sudden turbulence on the flight that tossed the Stingray around.

Incidentally, all cargo is assigned a letter. The Stingray is so big that it takes up two slots – “I” and “DR.” Based on the rates we’ve seen lately just for a small package of photos, we can only guess what the cost was for sending this Stingray to Europe, definitely not pocket change.

[VIDEO] Teaser from Vossen Shows Corvette Stingray Burnouts in Slo-Mo HD Glory

Earlier this month, we learned that Vossen Wheels was one among the lucky first to take delivery of a new 2014 Corvette Stingray. After fitting the C7 Stingray with their new monoblock CVT wheels, the guys took the car to the track. Vossen filmed the Corvette having all that fun on the track and has put out a teaser video with the full release expected this Friday.

Vossen tells us the wheels shown on the Black Corvette Stingray are actually their Precision Series lightweight forged wheels. We’ll get some additional details to share.

If that video doesn’t have your heart beating, there’s something wrong with you. Now we have another reason to look forward to Friday when the full video will be released!

SAVE THE STINGRAYS!

Last night we learned about a strange incident at the Texas State Fair where a participant at the Chevy Ride and Drive event crashed into two Corvette Stingrays with the back of 2014 Impala. We now have some more details from someone that was at the event and saw the crash first hand and told us that isn’t entirely accurate.

Video deleted on request

Jalopnik also has an eyewitness to the crash and here is what he said:

While I didn’t see what led up to it, I just looked up when I heard the first crunch… the Impala with the rear damage was hit by the guy first. He was driving an Impala, and first smashed into the rear of the grey Impala, then into the white C7 and the yellow C7. I’m not sure if the red C7 was damaged at all.

The guy looped back around, and was heading toward the building, and everyone screamed and ran like Godzilla was coming (I stayed and took pictures, as there was a more than adequate barrier to stop him from killing us all). He parked the car and the police and event staff were all frantic. The guy gets out of the car and seemed totally fine, just shook up. I took a pic of him talking to the police… juuuust incase he goes crazy and winds up on the news or something.

[VIDEO] Two C7 Corvette Stingrays at the Drag Strip

Let’s face it. Since Chevrolet started delivering the new 2014 Corvette Stingrays, it seems like they are now everywhere. My twitter and youtube feeds are full of new spottings and First Time videos, but this video of two Corvette Stingrays on the dragstrip running against each other was something I had to share!

The two C7 Corvette Stingrays faced off against each other at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, Texas. The Velocity Yellow Corvette Stingray is a non-Z51 while the Arctic White Corvette is equipped with the Z51 performance package. The comments in the video suggested one of the Corvettes was an automatic and the other a 7-speed, but didn’t specify which car had which transmission.

Our bet is the Corvette with the automatic got off the line and down the track faster than the 7-speed manual Corvette which appeared to have a little more wheel spin once the go light turned green. But we’ll make you watch the video to see which of the Stingrays was the quickest.

The original poster on the forum suggested that both drivers are new to drag racing, but they did turn in respectable times in the Corvette Stingrays with quarter mile times in the 12s.

[VIDEO] The 1963 Harley J. Earl Corvette Sells for $1.5 Million at Mecum Chicago

[VIDEO] The 1963 Harley J. Earl Corvette Sells for $1.5 Million at Mecum Chicago

When Harley Earl left General Motors in 1963, he was gifted with this unique Corvette Sting Ray Convertible that was customized to his interests by the style department he originally created. The Harley Earl Corvette was the featured vehicle at Mecum’s 2013 Chicago auction and a little after 3pm ET on Saturday afternoon, the hammer fell with the sold price reaching $1.5 million.

This is the third time we’ve seen the Harley Earl Corvette on a Mecum auction block in the last four years. At the Bloomington Gold auction in June 2009, the Corvette was a no sale with the high bid at $985,000. The following year it showed up at Mecum’s Spring Classic where it sold for $925,000.

With the recent sale of the 1968 L88 Corvette for $3.2 million at Mecum’s Dallas auction, we speculated if another record price for Corvettes would fall. With the sales price at $1.5 million, the Harley Earl Corvette becomes the third highest selling Corvette at a public auction. The 1963 Corvette Rondine sold in 2008 for $1.6 million to remain the 2nd highest sale behind the ’67 L88.

Here’s the video from the sale and as you’ll see, the auctioneer was really working hard to keep the auction going, but once it hits $1.5 million he eventually closes it down by hammering it sold.

The Corvette features many components from 1965 and many items that were never on regular production Corvettes. The color is metallic blue and the interior features custom blue leather seats with white trim. The Corvette features a set of gauges built into where the passenger glove box would be located. The clock was moved to the glovebox and accompanied by an accelerometer, vacuum pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge and matching inside/outside temperature gauges, while an altimeter replaced the clock in the center of the dash.

Perhaps the car’s most distinguishable feature is the side exhaust. It is one of 4 Corvette with the custom side exhaust. The other cars that have it are the original styling Mako Shark, the 1964 Bunkie Knudsen car and the 1964 Chicago Auto Show car.

[VIDEO] LG Motorsports Adds Long Tube Headers to a 2014 Corvette Stingray

[VIDEO] LG Motorsports Adds Long Tube Headers to 2014 Corvette Stingray

Now that the tuners have their hands on the new 2014 Corvette Stingray, we’re starting to see the aftermarket world works its magic. LG Motorsports has a Z51-equipped Corvette Stingray and they’ve already added a set of their popular Long Tube headers to the LT1. Still equipped with the stock GM tune and air assembly, LG saw a gain of 30 hp and 45 ft-lbs torque.

Anthony from LG Motorsports posted this on the forum Wednesday evening:

Here it is guys, first official dyno runs on the C7 Stingray with LG Motorsports 1 3/4 Super Pro Prototype headers. Bone stock to headers and no cats. Car still has the stock air filter in it, stock tires, stock tune….hell it still has the same fuel in it that we picked it up with.

The two dyno pulls are nearly identical with a 443 rwhp and 453 ft-lbs of torque. The baseline hp/tq for the Stingray appears to be 414 rwhp and 407 ft-lbs of torque.

Here is the Corvette Stingray on the dynojet following the header install:

[VIDEO] LG Motorsports Adds Long Tube Headers to 2014 Corvette Stingray

It’s going to be interesting to see how the LT1 takes to the usual aftermarket modifications (headers, cam, air intake, exhaust and tune) and what that will do to the driving experience considering all the driver mode selections and fuel savings technology. But considering a 30 hp gain from just headers, add some of the other mods and a tune and you should be close to 505 hp Z06 territory.

[VIDEO] Man Surprises Parents With a 2008 Corvette

[VIDEO] Man Surprises Parents With a 2008 Corvette

For months, Josh Spencer had picked his dad’s brain about what kind of dream Corvette he would like to have when he finally bought one.

Little did Dad know that Josh was just trying to make sure he bought the absolute perfect Corvette for his father.

“For years I wanted to do something, but unfortunately wasn’t able to afford it,” Josh blogged. “However, over the past 5 years my Beachbody Coach business has increased so much that not only has it given my family and I complete financial freedom, but it has allowed me to do some things for the people I care about most, my friends and family.”

Take a look at this video as Josh surprises his mom and dad with their “perfect” C6 Corvette, black on black, as they think he is just bringing them along to pick up his own 2014 Stingray he’s been talking about for months.

His dad is completely shocked after Josh walks over to the 2008 Corvette, giftwrapped with a red bow, and hands him a card that had been on the windshield. Once she realizes what is happening, his mom bursts into tears as his dad continues to ask if the car is really theirs.

“My parents mean the world to me,” Josh writes. “They have done so much for me over the years and are a major reason why I am where I am today with my family life, business, and health. They have brought me up to care about others, put family first, give back, live with integrity, but yet be strong, independent, and to always push hard for my goals and dreams.”

Josh and his parents had cruised around town with each other for years – Josh and his family in his 2011 BMW Z4 and his parents in their BMW 1M.

“Back in July I decided that I was going to get rid of the Z4 and purchase a 2014 Corvette Stingray and thought to myself how cool it would be if they had a Corvette as well so that we can put our cars in car shows and even join a Corvette Club together. That’s when I started picking dad’s brain to see exactly what kind of car he wanted.”

If you want to experience one of the greatest feelings that you can ever feel in your life, Josh says, do something for something without expecting anything in return. Truly incredible.

“Purchasing a Corvette C6 for my parents was truly an awesome experience and moment,” he says, “and I know that we will all enjoy our cars together as much as we possibly can. It’s just one more thing that brings our family closer together.”
