Disc Brakes, Front, 11.88 in. Diameter Rotors, Solid, 5 x 4.75 in. Vented, Chevrolet, Kit
Van Steel offers billet drop spindle brake kits for a variety of Chevy Corvette models from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. Their billet aluminum drop spindles preserve ride quality because spring rate is not changed and shock absorbers retain shock travel (for non-lowered cars). For lowered cars with reduced shock travel, drop spindles will help improve ride because it will give back 1 in. of shock travel that was lost making the shock less likely to bottom out. These will pair great with BB coil springs in SB cars for a total of 1.75-2 in. drop or coilovers. Drop spindles will also improve handing because of a lower center of gravity.
The spindles and steering arms reduce unsprung weight—netting a 9 lb. weight loss, 4.5 lbs. per side. Unsprung weight improves traction and stability by allowing the wheels to follow the contours of the road more closely, increasing tire contact and improving grip. With less mass moving up and down, the wheels can change direction faster, thus making the car more responsive. Van Steel drop spindles are taller than OE. By raising roll center, it decreases body roll and increases stability. (Does NOT change track width.)
Included in these kits are two new late hubs. New front hubs come complete with Timken bearings. Each hub is inspected after the races are installed for proper runout spec. This ensures no pad knock and a better braking system. The hubs are made from heat-treated 4140 alloy steel and are stronger than factory cast hubs. Late hubs (1969-82) are required for now because Van Steel is only manufacturing these for the larger bearings. Choose from standard solid or slotted and cross-drilled rotors. Calipers not included.
