Spindles, Disc Brake, 1 in. Drop, Billet Aluminum, Natural, Hubs, Chevrolet, Kit
Van Steel offers billet aluminum drop spindle kits for a variety of Chevy Corvette models from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. They preserve ride quality because spring rate is not changed and shock absorbers retain shock travel (for non-lowered cars). For lowered cars with reduced shock travel, drop spindles will help improve ride because it will give back 1 in. of shock travel that was lost, making the shock less likely to bottom out. These will pair great with BB coil springs in SB cars for a total of 1.75-2 in. drop or coilovers. Drop spindles will also improve handing because of a lower center of gravity.
The spindles and steering arms reduce unsprung weight—netting a 9 lb. weight loss, 4.5 lbs. per side. Unsprung weight improves traction and stability by allowing the wheels to follow the contours of the road more closely, increasing tire contact and improving grip. With less mass moving up and down, the wheels can change direction faster, thus making the car more responsive. Van Steel drop spindles are taller than OE. By raising roll center, it decreases body roll and increases stability. (Does NOT change track width.) Kits are available with or without hubs and bearings.
